Janelle,
The factory warranty is there no matter which option you choose. However, after that is up, if you have chosen purchase you are responsible for repairs.Sorry I didn't think about that.
BTW, can't figure out how to insert quotes into a box????

going from a renter ....
If something comes to life in others because of you, then you have made an approach to immortality.

I also wasn`t given a choice to rent or to own. After a year of rental, I received a letter stating I was now the official owner and to contact the Guarantee holder to have them change it into my name and that there was still Guarantee left on my machine. Called the co., who told me the guarantee only covered origional purchaser-- that I would need to send it back to where I got it and they would need to send it in for any repairs. Called issuer back, they said they no longer have anything to do with the machine- that it was now my sole responsibility.
When I needed a new facemask, the Ins. told me the "cost was over this service or item you or your Dr ( funnyiight) requested because the units exceed jmedical Management Authorization". Of course the Dr had ordered it. That was back in Dec. Then they sold me another new mask in March as first liner tore. This time told-- Will not pay for this service based on section three of S. Blue- services must be Authorized by your Primary Care Psysician. Par provider cannot bill member. So, they billed me instead. My Lung specialist ordered it, not my primary Dr. and it came from the Home Theraphy which billed them. What a run around they are giving me when the Home theraphy Equip. Inc. sends them the bills. First time over a yr ago, home theraphy came to my home for me to sign papers and the ins ( S. Blue) paid their share with n o problems.

Maybe its just flat feet. Try arch supports. http://www.footsmart.com or http://www.foot.com. Make sure they are arch supports not just cushions.
this all reminds me of the time the Auto glass company saved me $75. A rock broke a windshield and I got an estmate to repair at $155. Since this was gher than my deductible of $100, I got my insurance company involved. all ovf a sudden the cost of repair went down to $80 and the guy was real proud of how much he saved me. The end result is I did pay $20 less for that repair. However, my insurance increase over the next five years cost me an additional $500.
I would of paid the $80 with no problem but I didn't get the insurance company rate. Why can't DMEs charge resonable rates rather than gaming the insurance? I mean inflating the price of equipment by 50% because insurance will only cover 80%. A machine can be sold proftiably at $700, but gets priced at $1,200 so after re-imbursement the DME makes $960. No I don't trust a situation where the DME says they are saving me money by keeping me on old technology

renting through dme
You have to remember that the dme co is simply renting the equipment to you. Your insurance has decided not to purchase the equipment to save THEMSELVES money. Although sleep apnea doesnt just go away, its the way all dme equipment is paid for. How expensive would it get for insurance to purchase a $1000 wheelchair everytime someone needs it for just a month becuase they sprained their ankle? Instead, they rent it monthly for $80 and when your done with it the dme gets it back.
Whats so hard to understand about this?
You rent a car from hertz, pay $50 a day for a hyundai elantra. Is that a rip off?
Is it fair that hertz can receive a possible $1500 in receivables for a car they probably pay less than $200 a month for?
Wash rinse and repeat for anything else you can rent, furniture, a hotel, etc. It obviously is cheaper to buy, therefore purchase if you can, if you cant then be glad you have insurance that will actually cover it AS WELL AS a DME that will accept whatever terms that insurance co pays on. Im DME companies are excited about waiting six months to get paid for services rendered as most insurances typically do. good luck
