Any sugestion?

Post by marielouise » Tue Jun 03, 2008 4:34 pm

I had a setting of 14. In September of 06I had surgery ( septoplasty, removed my uvula, tonsils and some soft pallet.). About two months ago I had another sleep study because I felt like the setting may now be too high. I was belching alot in the mornings. That sleep study was miserable ie exceptionally noisy neighbors, hot room etc. Anyway they did lower my setting to an 8.I finally got around to having it changed. The first few nights I slept very poorly waking up over a dozen times. I thought that maybe it was just a matter of getting used to it but now I don't think so My husband said I'm snoring like a freight train. I do think my snoring is waking me alot but I haven't woken up gasping for air. Going to the sleep lab again or seeing the dr. is not a thrilling thought and it's not in the budget either. Has any one else had similar circumstances?

Hello & Welcome, marielouise! Glad you found this forum--SO much useful info and SO many helpful people here!

Haven't had the experience you describe, but I'm sure someone here will have some ideas. Good luck!

Welcome to the best forum, IMHO. While I've not had a similar experience exactly, I must sat that my first titration was in a room that was too hot, with a noisy machine. Not necessarily a wonderful idea.

I can tell you that at my one year sleep study, my pressure was raised. I was told that I could use the 12 cm pressure if a bit of snoring did not bother me; otherwise, a pressure of 13 would take care of that. I went with the 12 cm; but then had an unfortunate incident where my pressure was set back down to 9 cm.

When the change was discovered, I decided to try the pressure of 13 and found I was feeling much better than at 12. So, apparently for me, snoring isn't a good plan. It may only apply to me; but I would think that your doctor could change your pressure without necessarily having a full-out sleep study.

Maybe a prescription for an APAP would be appropriate for you? (Actually, a CPAP prescription should be able to get you an APAP, at least through cpap.com ). The machine adjusts to the need of the user, and it is able to be set for operation as a straight CPAP, should you wish.

Best of luck, and please let us know how your treatment is progressing.

Karen

Well, I just got word that the doctor okayed a change to 12. I asked if they could walk me through changing it so I don't have to leave the island . They weren't able to. Yesterday and the day before going into Houston would not have been inconvenience but today? Well, if it means getting sleep tonight I'll take that extra sting at the gas pump. I wonder if any oil companies lose sleep over what they're doing to consumers.

Or you could change it yourself. The instructions are in this link;

That link is actually for the Pro I think. Go ahead and print it out for future reference and make the change yourself! You can change it again, yourself, if you feel you need to. People here can help you, so do it! Right now, your snoring is probably ruining your sleep and you won't be getting adequate therapy.

YES ! Thank you so much following that got me on the right path. After making the adjustment we couldn't get out of the set up mode so after looking in that set of posts this link was the provider setup guide.

http://www.cpap-supply.com/v/cpap-machi ... 0guide.pdf

I made sure I printed it out & stored it in the case. Last night I only woke up once. Didn't necessarily want to get up at 9 am but such is life. After a few more nights sleep like that I'll be ready to rise & shine much earlier.
In the set up mode I did find the mask leak alert that I turned on and feeling a few leaks here and there nothing alerted me but this am I didn't look at the machine to see what it said. I was astonished they had set the ramp to 30 min. ! gee ! I put it at 10min that should be more than sufficient. Some other settings I was tempted to jack with but did not.
Yesterday I found a site that had much better prices on filters . After getting filters, a hose and snuggly I should be sitting pretty for a while. Now if anyone knows where to get good but inexpensive snugglies let me know. Thank you for the advise.
