I've tried two FF masks, and just can't use them for exactly the same reason. When I get into really deep sleep, my face musles relax, and my jaw drops, creating terrible leaks.

Others have tried Mack's silicone ear plug material rolled into a rope. This is placed where the mask contacts the skin to form a better seal.

For my own part, I just tried to learn to nose breathe. Works most of the time but I still tend to leak a bit.

brothertony, I'm about to call my sleep doc today to try another mask (I have to get a new scrip if I want to try a new mask). I have been trying to use the Quattro for almost a month now and I think it just won't work for me.

I've followed everyone's advice here about how to adjust it... read the instructions multiple times. I even called Resmed to see if they could help. In my case, if I tighten it down far enough to stop leaks I get the bruised bridge of nose problem. I was able to eliminate the forehead piece mark by careful adjustment, but nothing I can do seems to get me a good seal and no bruise. I haven't tried the Mack's silicone tweak; I'm hoping to find a mask that works as designed before I go down that route.

If you're certain that you've tried the full range of proper adjustments, and it still isn't working for you, it may be time to try another mask if you won't get dinged with the expense.

No smiling! Pooch your lips a little and lightly tighten the straps. You don't want a bigger mask! Rolling the Macks silicone and putting it under the flap where the leaks are seems to work, but I could never get it all back off later. Putting a little of it on your face where the leaks are also seems to work. I think finally your face starts to look like a mask and then everything fits fine!!!

Brothertony:

I have had problems with the Quattro too. I have tighten, and I mean TIGHTEN the straps to stop the leaking. Now, I am sure someone is going to pipe in here and sign I am over tightening and that is why it is leaking. Trust me when I say it does not matter how loose or type my mask is, it still leaks. The only way I could stop the leaks was to press my head/mask into the pillow where it was leaking. This was not comfortable!!

I just ordered a hybrid mask and it should arrive today. I am hoping this is the answer to a comfortable, leak free ff mask. I will let you know how it goes!

brothertony, what about a hybrid type (like the Liberty or Hybrid)? It may be the ticket for you. I am waiting on a Liberty myself, for much the same reason as you.

Have you tried the Liberty? I started with a quatro and then switched to a liberty. The liberty gives a much better seal around the mouth *BUT* the nasal pillows tend to be a struggle for me. But the bottom line is I get lower leak rates with the liberty. CPAP is tough on everyone at 1st, but it's even worse for us mouth breathers! I'd take a look at a liberty or hybrid if I were you.

I am still working thru with the leaking problems with the Quattro, too. My face relaxing does seem to cause that. One time I even woke to find my mouth below the mask..it had somehow slipped off my mouth. Usually it is the little leaks below the corners of my mouth. I am going to the DME tomorrow to have her readjust it and see what can be done to relieve the problem. But I don;t find it claustrophobic at all...I really like the mask when it is not leaking! Trice
