OOPS! I goofed. Can anyone give me advice?

Post by sleepymagoo » Sat May 31, 2008 12:06 pm

Hope someone knows how to solve this problem. I removed the cover on the back on my rescan elite in order to remove the "blank card" before inserting the rescan data card. This is my first time with it. I realized too late that what I was trying to pull out was not a blank card but a thing the size of the card with contacts on it. My fingers must have touched the contacts and "ruined it?

I just installed my rescan software and cardreader and am anxious to use it but the data card comes up as "blank".

After realizing my mistake, I put the cover back on (now I know the cover is the blank card?) and I inserted the data card. The machine said it was copying data and that it was a sucess and to remove card. It was very fast.

I inserted the data card into the cardreader gold contacts up and tried three different rescan data cards but they also read "blank."

I know I need to contact the dme to let them know what I did but what I want to know is can it be repaired? How much will it cost? What I thought was the blank card must have been the data communication port. I also tried to insert my data card there, at first, before realizing the cover had to go back on first. I am so tired I can't think straight let alone see straight.

Is there anything I can do to fix my mistake and if not, what do you think it will cost me to have it fixed?

Thanks in advance to all who offer suggestions,

sleepmagoo

Do the instructions you were following to replace the card have a drawing of how it should all go back together?

I don't think that you ruined anything, and you most likely did copy the data to the card. I think that you probably need to set up the resscan software properly. Did you fill out the patient information?, Open the patient (yourself) file, The start download window should show this file.
Hope this helps.....

Yes, I set up all my profile info and additional details so that all my personal info and all the serial numbers and makes are listed.

When I attempt to download a message comes up that reads:

"There are NO devices available for downloading data. Connect a flow generator or data card and try again."

When I installed the data card reader the "found hardware" sign came up and reqested I insert Rescan cdi to install, which I did.

I tried again to download, but I still get the same message.
I don't know what else to do. I am using an old laptop with XP because it doesn't want to install on my newer Vista home. I wish they would update tje driver to work with Vista.

Do you or anyone have any more suggestions in light of the message I get?

Yes, there was a paper with instructions and arrows. I have just never heard of a cover or lid being called a blank card, so that threw me off.

All I had to do was snap the cover back on the machine and slide the card through the slot. Thanks for anwsering.

Make sure that the gold contacts on the card are up when you insert it into the reader. The side with the ResScan logo goes down. This is exactly the opposite of the way it goes in the flow generator. After a year I still get it wrong sometimes.

Don't know if this will help, but try waiting about a minute before beginning the download

Sometimes when I insert the card into the reader, it takes up to 30 seconds for the software to recognize it. If I try to download while the software is "thinking" about it, it gives me the "no device selected" bit. After that initail wait, though, it works fine.

I just thought of something else that might be of help. When installing the card reader, you do NOT connect the reader to the computer until the WIZZARD asks for you to do so, also make sure you choose the correct operating system that you are using.

RiverDave,
Thank you. Tomorrow I will try again but will wait. l probably didn't wait 30 seconds or more but instead just kept clicking on download button in frustration. I hope it works. I have been trying to get the data card to work for days..

Thanks abysmillard, That is probably the only thing I have got down right, but thanks for offering help. It is all appreciated.
