Yawning But NOT Very Tired?

Post by rozenbob » Thu May 29, 2008 8:42 pm

Due to a bad case of Sinisitis, I was Off my APAP for four days. (Actually had decent sleep on fourth night..)

Now I am back on APAP (8-13), I have noticed a Definate Increase in my yawning during the first few waking hours of the day compared to the 4 non CPAP days. and remember that I did yawn prior to stopping the CPAP.

I am under the belief that yawning is our bodies way of Increasing Oxygen in the blood.

If true, does this indicate a need for some type of change in treatment such as BiPAP?

Thanks ------------Bob

don't know Bob . the sinus condition could be one reason for the yawns. possibly your bodys natural reaction to a closed air space. have you ever taken a flight when you were stuffed up ? not much fun, eh. Divers do what is called a valsalva procedure to clear blocked unequal air spaces. is similar to what a yawn or swallowing accomplishes

I have heard all of my life, that yawning is caused from lack of oxygen to the brain. I somehow believe this, when I am very tired and exausted, I yawn alot, not sleepy, just yawn. After relaxing, it just kinda stops.

Ask for an oximetry test. My SPO 7500 can be worn like a wristwatch and it records me sitting around, etc.

Good luck with it........

I often yawn when I'm not necessarily tired or sleepy...just feel like I need more air. Sometimes I wonder if it has to do with anxiety or asthma...but it is difficult to tell. Sometimes a good yawn will do it...other times I yawn on and off for a while. Never quite getting a satisfying yawn in.
