any software compatible with Mac?

Post by snoozie_suzy » Thu May 29, 2008 3:50 am

Hello Everyone,

I haven't been on this forum in waaaaay too long! I recently had my PC crash and decided to buy a Mac instead after having many years of Windows problems.....anyhow just decided to get around to trying to download Encore Pro, when it hit me that it is not compatible with Mac. Does anyone know of a software for Respironics that IS compatible? I am having what I think is leaks lately and it is next to impossible to tell without downloading my smartcard. Help!

Or does everyone that uses Encore Pro have Windows? what do Mac people do that need to see their info? Hmmm is this a Windows ploy to get me to switch back?!

If anyone could PM me or just reply to this post I would be most greatful!

Thanks
Suzy

Hey Suzy!

Welcome back!

I think the Mac users prefer to use something called bootcamp that enables them to load and run Windows in oder to run Windows apps like EncorePro.

I'm sure the Mac users will chime in and give more details.

Encore Pro runs on Windows only. The good news is you can use Windows on your Mac via bootcamp as DreamStalker mentioned. Windows will run exclusively under bootcamp, just like the usual PC. Which means you can only run one OS at a time. It is great for games and intensive software.

There other way, is to install WMWare fusion or Parallels. These software allows Windows to run under Mac OS X, which means you do not have to "switch back".

Personally, I have tried Encore Pro using VMWare fusion, it works just fine.

Is it a brand new Mac? If so go with the suggestions here. If it's one of the older generation Macs with the Power PC processor I've got Encore Pro running through Virtual PC. Either way you should be able to get it up and running, so need to go back to windoze

If it is an Imac, yes, install Windows XP on a bootcamp partition using the bootcamp wizzard. Then consider installing vmware fusion for the mac. This will allow you to run any of the CPAP software right on your Mac Desktop! It will also work for Vista, it would be a mistake to install it instead of XP.

Once you go to the trouble to get XP running on bootcamp and run through fusion, you will really enjoy the combination. However; once you do that you are back to the problems of Windows and must install a virus program (Avast is free).

Hi - been using Encore programs for a year now after using Bootcamp on my iMac and putting in XP (do NOT use Vista!). It was easy to do and you can always get help here to fiddle with the E. programs.

Thanks everybody for the great tips!
Yes its an iMac 10.5 Leopard. I think I will do bootcamp. I already have Nortons for Mac on it because I do filesharing for some of my music files which is kind of an open invitation for viruses.

Thank you everybody for the quick replies.

I bet you never found a real virus that affected Mac. Some companies require a virus checker on their macs simply so they won't pass a virus along to a PC.

You MUST have a separate virus checker (Avast is free) as it operates completely independently of the Mac and is actually possible to get a real virus when running in XP. Seriously consider VmWare Fusion as it blurs completely the separation between Windows and OSX on the Mac. Either way you will be able to run your CPAP programs.
