Life of a CPAP machine?
Life of a CPAP machine?
My machine is now around 10 years old, and I'm wondering - Do they ever die? Is there a considered useable life span?
Well, most are warranted for 2 years, and Medicare and most insurances will replace at 5 years, so that should give you an idea of what the health industry consideres a reasonable life span. Sounds like yours (like the Mars rovers Opportunity and Spirit) just keeps going...and going....
At 10 years, yours qualifies as a real veteran!
I would think that a replacement might be in order by now, if for no other reason than concern over the age of the unit (availability of repair parts, etc.). Also, newer machines have many more useful features.

Getting old doesn't make you 'forgetful'. Having too damn many things to remember makes you 'forgetful'.
I would think a back up machine might be in order. Some of the older machines have lasted 10 years. The newer one generally won't last that long. IMHO Most people would have wanted to replace it before now because the technology gets better all the time. Makes the therapy and comfort better.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting: "Wow what a ride!"

10 years ago, I bet no smartcard technology or reader software. Probably no "Ramp" feature...gee I wounder if APAP, AFLEX or even a feature like EPR or CFLEX to allow easier exhalation was around?
You might want to check a new one out and keep your old one as a backup unit...just in case of a malfunction of the new one.
I certainly I am looking at purchasing on CPAP.COM just because of the price, but then again, I do have Insurance and so does my wife. Last time the total cost was covered. I have to see what I can get.
