Fellow Snorks!

Post by tooms » Thu May 22, 2008 10:29 pm

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, but have been using CPAP for over a year. I don't have any technicial or practical advice to offer in this post, but thought I would share a funny anecdote from my CPAP experience.

About a year ago when I had first started using my mask, my girlfriend had taken to calling me a Snork (from the cartoon characters with the hoses in their heads). I thought it was funny and didn't mind it at all.

One night I had a particularly hard time getting my mask to fit and struggled with it for a couple of hours. Earlier that same night, I woke my girlfriend up a couple of times with a few words thinking she was awake. Well naturally she reached her breaking point, not having slept for three hours. She got up in a rush and in a loud, condemning voice told me she was tired of me "talking and snorkin' around!"

We both immediately cracked up laughing despite the tension of a sleepless night. It was shocking and relieving how a simple twist of humor was able to snap us both out of our rotten moods. Thanks to that moment we've had an inside joke for the last year and I guess it's not so inside now that I've shared it!

Anyways, thanks for reading. Maybe you have a story to share too? Oh yeah and if you've never seen a snork, google it or look at my avatar... pretty fitting for CPAP users!

Snorks?

The correlation never occured to me.

I am fairly new to cpap and the forum, (Jan 2008 ) but I come from a family of snorks..My 40 yr old son-in-law has been on cpap for 6 years, his brother for 3 and my 19 year old grandson is going for a sleep study Tuesday, right after the holiday... we have all said we will do a family portrait someday...masks on and hugging our CPAPS ! .or perhaps start our on community..Snorkville ! My son -in-law came up with the snork idea about a year ago..we are so glad to see that others have thought of it too..makes us a little less weird ! ..

actually I am illinigal..but I forgot to sign in..
