Questions for users of Opus 360

Post by pjadams » Mon May 12, 2008 5:33 pm

This is a pretty good mask, though I don't like the hose going up the front of my head. I just read how I can unfasten it and move it around.

But the soft plastic nasal pillows often pull up from their seal in the hose apparatus and leak. Has anyone had luck taping these?

I started using this mask about three weeks ago and really like it. Particularly because I had a comfort gel that didn't fit and was causing sores.

Anyway, I find this mask works best when the nasal pillows are resting against the skin under my nose. However, as I move around during the night, this isn't always where it sits. So I do find that I can have leakage when the edge of a nasal pillow nearest my mouth comes out (as opposed to the edge nearest the tip of my nose).

I've found that tightening the cheek straps don't help, but moving my head so that the cheek strap I'm laying on is a little tighter brings the pillows next to the skin and stops the leaks.

I'm also a side sleeper and I find that on days that I've exercised, I seem to be less bothered with leaks. I think that's because I don't move around as much...but can't be sure.

Thankyou! That makes sense!

I put a ring of Mack's silicone around the edges of the pillows so with a little movement they don't go anywhere.

I'd like to try that, where can I find it. I googled it and got references to ear plugs.

I got this mask about two weeks ago, and I have to say that Dreamstalker's mod to this mask was a total godsend!!! See it in this thread:

viewtopic.php?t=30787&highlight=

The mask moved around quite a bit before this mod, but once I did this mod, it is much more stable. I have not yet ordered the straps, but I accomplished the same with a couple of strips of panty hose.

Also, I found that no matter which size pillow that I used, I'd have leaks. The medium pillow seemed the best, but in comparing it to the ones from the Swift II, they were too widely set.

However, I found a way around that too...a loop of dental floss around both of the pillows pulled them together and fit much better. I have to say on one night the loop came un-done and man it was noticable!!

bap40, my post may have been confusing. Can you tell me where to find the silicon you used?

It is the ear plugs. Used to plug your nasal pillows.

You should have seen the post where someone said "and then I used Mack's ear plugs to stop the leaks and slept great" and some of us did a double take because we had a visual of a person whose cpap leaked out of their ears....

Mack's silicone ear plugs are made of soft, shapeable silicone putty.

OK, I get it! Thanks! (Slow on the update aren't I?)

I'll look for them.

Hi, again: I tried the dental floss around the pillows early on, but then I found the floss cutting into my the area where my nose meets the skin above my lip.

I also realized last night that the cheek straps on the Opus tend to move up on me so when I'm moving my head to adjust it as I'm sleeping, I'm often also pushing the strap down. Keeping the strap from slipping upwards helps.

Also, I got cheek strap covers from Pad-a-Cheek and the covers are helping hold the strap in place better.

If this was your result, then the floss was in the wrong place. Wrap it around the narrow part between the body of the pillows and each individual pillows. It won't be near your body.

Well, after reading all that was posted here about the mask, I did only one thing and WHAT a difference! I hadn't had a chance to get the strap cushions or the ear plugs but I read that loosening the hose at the top strap and letting it move free might help. It REALLY did! I actually like the mask now - as much as you can like a mask....
