My suggestion is to list it on cpap auction rather than using these forums. These forums are generally utilized for the informational benefit of all rather than a sales listing tool.

I disagree - people often mention items for swop or sale here. We're a group of people with a common interest, which includes often ending up with stuff (masks etc) which we have bought and never used because thay don't work for us. I for one would be more inclined to deal with someone I know on here than someone I have never interacted with on an auction site, so if I were to have something I wanted to sell I'd mention it here first before listing it on an auction site.

Point taken.

Then perhaps the moderators should set up a separate thread for others to sell and those like yourself to perhaps buy rather than integrating the two in the one main thread. That to me would be as seamless as the former as well as keeping this existing forum for the exchange of ideas and the other for the sale of items.

Sorry to have to do this, but again I disagree.

There was talk of adding different threads a while back, but this was soundly rejected by the users of the forum, as that fragments things and makes it very difficult to keep up with what is happening.

My suggestion is that if you aren't interested, you just don't click on that thread.

The current system has been working well for years, and except for now and again when a new member tells someone off for doing what is normally accepted here, still works perfectly well.

I'm trying hard to tell you how things work without sounding like I'm coming down on you for being new and used to different ways, but it's a thin line, and I'm not sure if I got it right, so I'll spell it out - I'm not flaming you nor trying to influence your opinion, just mentioning what has been the norm here in the past, and that by and large it works fine that way, and that no offence is intended.

Thanks Colin,
Again point well taken. I guess as an avid "ebayer", I've come to enjoy and trust auction sites and therefore favour them. As I haven't yet had a bad experience on any auction site, I prefer to go to them to buy. I've purchased a number of brand new items on cpap auction and have probably saved tons of $$. I guess I'm biased that way --in that I wouldn't think of buying anything without some of the protection an auction site offers.

I guess I'll just have to get used to seeing the odd sale item integrated in discussion threads although, to me, it's like seeing commercials popping up while I'm watching a good movie. My thoughts only of course.

As you've said, according to past polls, others here prefer to see these items for sale in this forum, I do not and of course will respect the wishes of the masses.

I agree with ColinP. I'm reluctant to use the auction site. I'd much prefer to deal with a cpaptalk forum member that I "know".

I have to agree with ColinP and greyhound--I do NOT like auctions and stuff. This a place of trust here ---my 2 cents---

I used to be adamant in my feeling that those that had items for sale should do it within cpapauction. Due to some convincing from some of the more seasoned forum members I have changed my mind, although I am still wary of those that post items for sale that are NOT regular posters. In my opinion, we have a few (although it is a very slight few) that have taken advantage of the forum to advertise items that they have for sale and try to keep the thread alive by bumping the thread up to the top several times. In my opinion, this is a misuse of the forum.

I have traded items and purchased items from REGULAR forum members through listings on the forum, but only from those that I have gotten to know and trust. Of course, I realize that I may not know some of the older members that have been around for awhile, but no longer post regularly.
