Making your own anti-irrratation strips
Making your own anti-irrratation strips
After reading the post from the guy trying to sell the anti-irritation strips, I had an idea.
I to am battling skin irritation and have been using bandaids on the bridge of my nose to try & combat it. Hasn't been real successful, bandaids just aren't made to fit on your nose. But after I read the posts, a light went off in my head and I tried something else.
Anyone familiar with something called Moleskin? Moleskin is kind of a standard part of any first aid kit for hikers, backpackers and canoer's (like myself), used to cover blisters while remaining very flexible. Usually comes in 4' X 4" sheets, its kind of like a bandaid, with adhesive on one side, thin and very flexible. I always carry some in my backpack, great stuff for blisters. It had never occurred to me to try it with my CPAP until I read this guys posts, but decided to try it.
And what a huge difference, it worked great. I actually wore my dis-Comfortgel mask the last two nights for 3-4 hours per night, a record for me, and I have no red marks on my nose and no blisters/irritation. Hopefully I won't need it when my Ultra Mirage shows up (supposed to arrive today!!!), but now I know, if I start having skin irritation problems, break out the moleskin.
You can buy moleskin about anywhere you get bandaids, or in any decent sporting goods store that focuses on hiking & backpacking, made by any number of different manufacturers (the package in my backpack is made by Dr. Scholls, the makers of odor eaters) And the best part is the stuff is dirt cheap, a package of four 4" X 4" pads will run you about a buck.

Just thought I'd mention, before people started barking at me, unlike Spammer in Texas, I have no economic ties to the sale of moleskin, am not employed by Dr. Scolls, and do not work for a company that sells anything even remotely associated with moleskin or moleskin related products.
Hockeydad, AKA, Don, who definitly doesn't want to be the guy "who let the dogs out" (I hate that song!!!)

I tried moleskin but prefer microfoam tape made by 3M. It is not as sticky and can be reused for at least a week. I got the 1 inch wide size. It comes in a roll and was about $3.16 at a local DME. Probably cost more because of shipping cost if you had to purchase it online.
Moleskin
Bandaids still work ok,for me,I use 3 a night.I buy the cheapest ones from Wal-Mart,99cents a box.Use them to stop the creases on my face,I have no trouble with the nose marks.
I tried the moleskin, but the adhesive was too harsh for my face.

ouch
I'm sorry, I am still back at putting moleskin ON a BLISTER.
I use it a lot BEFORE a blister forms for hiking and mtn biking. Can't imagine putting it on a formed blister and then having to rip that tough adhesive off along with the blister skin. My eyes are watering just thinking about it.
But to each his own....
I use the plastic super non-allergenic medical tape when i need protection from a mask on the bridge of my nose. Its thin, but stiff enough to protect, and comes off easy.
I would be concerned about sticking moleskin onto the delicate mask membrane (or my nose) and what the strong adhesive might do to the mask.
