Respironics M Series with AFlex
I used my new apap for the first time last night and want to ask a question of those who currently use the same machine.
I have the apap set for A Flex and I noticed the machine seemed to make more of a Darth Vater noice than I was used to from my older tank Bipap. It made the sound when I inhaled, but was quiet just before the inhale and exhale. Is this normal? Will it be a different sound in C Flex? I will try the C Flex tonight. Any comments sre very much appreciated.

M Series with A-Flex
I have this machine and have been using it for about 3 months. I have never used C-Flex so can't compare. I have mine set at A-Flex 2 and my husband says it sounds like breathing to him. To me, it makes a kind of breathing sound when I inhale and seems to make no sound at all when I am exhaling. It's like the machine pauses while I exhale. We have a white noise machine that we put on when we first go to bed and have it set for an hour on a "waves" sound. With that, we barely hear the apap.

exactly Hawthorne - hardly anything with moving parts and blowing air can be expected to be totally silent. Also a lot of times what you hear is the air leaving the mask as you exhale.
Think of people that live next to a railroad track or in downtown Manhattan compared to a little woosh of air coming from a machine that could be saving your life! lol

Darth, is that you?
I've come to adjust completely to the AFLEX noise. To me, the CFLEX was a bit too abrupt sounding, sort of like letting air out of a tire.
I vision the more sinusoidal AFLEX as an endless series of ocean waves, breaking then gently receding, breaking then gently receding, breaking then gently....zzzzzz

I have that same machine. I didn't notice a difference between Aflex and Cflex as far as noise. I just prefer Cflex for BREATHING. I don't like they way the Aflex breathes. So I use Cflex.
It's a very individual thing. If you like the way it BREATHES, but can't bear the noise, get a fan, white noise machine, or wear ear plugs.
Cheers,
B.

Thanks for all the replies...
Thanks to each of you for the replies. The sound of the machine never bothered me. I wanted to make sure it was normal for the apap. I slept very well last night. Normally, I wake after a couple of hours. Last night I slept to 6 hours before I woke and I was able to go back to sleep for 2 more hours. Thanks again for the comments.
