Pillar procedure

Post by Bluemoon68 » Fri May 02, 2008 11:41 am

Has anyone here had the pillar procedure? If so, did it help with the sleep apnea? I've read a lot about it, but wasn't sure it was worth it or not.

Pillar Procedure

I had the procedure done a couple of years ago. (Problem of snoring loud)

Results, not sure how much it really worked. After about a month one of the pillars came out.

After about two months, another started to come out and the doctor finish pulling it out.

More recently god diagnose with sleep apnea and since using CPAP (at a relatively high pressure setting), no more snoring problems.

Think the pillar was more of a waste in time for me. Despite all the adds on TV

Had it, cut my events in half. However, that still left me at just under 20 per hour, so I went on CPAP. If you have a rear tongue obstruction, and I guess most of us do, you won't solve the problem solely with pillar. But in certain cases, it could be worth the cost/trouble.

If the procedure was successful in curing some cases of sleep apnea, you would see insurance companies encouraging Pillar procedures.

exactly! they would be standing in line to pay those bills to get patients off of CPAP and paying for PSG's, machines & consumables, the cost they pay for a single PSG would more than cover that treatment....that is if it worked.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
