one more mask question

Post by KBee » Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:43 pm

I have to change insurance and I don't think the new one will pay for masks. Can you use a mask longer than 6 months? How do you tell it needs replacing, by leaks? Thanks for your advice.

Yes by the leaks, If it starts leaking, first thing would be to get a new cushion. I sure don't want to have to buy a new mask every 6 months!

KBee, a leaky mask (new or old) can often be helped by adding a homemade strap around the front. The leg cut off a pair of women's "tights" makes a very comfy extra strap...soft and stretchy. Handy if you need to make a mask cushion that's losing its oomph go those extra miles.

Doesn't have to be particularly snug at all. Works much like the way that putting your fingers lightly against the front of a mask works to stop a leak. That bit of extra pressure just "being there" helps. The extra strap takes the place of holding your hand against the front of the mask all night long.
