Makes me think of chicken/egg. Or, more precisely, cause/effect. Maybe that person would have had emphysema show up at that particular point in his life even if he had never used cpap one moment.

It might be more relevant to ask, if and when person diagnosed with emphysema smoked and if and when they stopped smoking. However, hopefully any one needing CPAP does not smoke.
