CATS!!!

Post by snoozin' » Tue Jun 21, 2005 12:48 pm

Ok, I was having problems back in January/Feb. when the cats learned how to turn on the heated humidifier. Whenever they got cold, they would turn it on, and lie down on top of the machine for a nice warm nap. I thought with the warm weather that the problem was solved for a few months. Well, last week we had super warm temperatures. One day when it was about 95, I turned on the fan in the bedroom, and one of the cats promptly plopped himself down right in front. Well, the other must have decided that there was no room in front of the fan for him, so he walked over (very deliberatly, mind) stepped up on the pap machine and turned it on, then settled himself down right in front of the mask hanging off the bedpost! He just made his own fan. The next day, the other cat turned on the pap machine and stood there enjoying the breeze. Wasn't it nice of me to get this wonderful machine for the cats - warm in winter, cool in summer - just what the cats ordered. Sigh. At least they let me use it at night.

Loved the story!
If my cat (his name is Monster -->very well deserved) tried a stunt like yours did, I'd be threatening him with the mitten factory and the fricassee pot!
Thanks for the laugh!

Great story, Debbie. And great cats!! I'm sure they think you're a great owner....and you are! Thanks for the laugh.

ooops, I forgot. Cats don't have owners. They have staff.

My cat is torturously antii-social. Comes by for pets but just out of reach so you have to crawl on the floor after him. Two pets and he is gone like the wind. No w that my CPAP has arrived he has determined the best sleeping place in the house is right beside my pillow. That wonderful breeze blowing out the exhaust holes is his personal air conditioner.

Was bad enough wakign to adjust the mask, now I get the pelasure of waking to him rubbing himslef agaisnt his wonderful plastic toy attached to my face. there are some nights I truly wished he didn't own me.

I have also found cats like to play with hoses--usually to the detriment of the hose, and the comfort curve cheek pieces apparently are nice mouse-sized cat toys.

I have 6 indoor cats and I have been lucky, they are not interested in my CPAP, hose or mask at all. Now my 2 ferrets are another story. I have to watch them very close. They keep wanting to climb up on the machine and inspect the hose. They climbed onto the machine one time and I later found out they had turned it on. LoL

Snoozin'

That's one of the funniest stories I've heard in a LONG time!!!
So very funny, and amazing. My cat isn't so smart, not very bright.
This is my Lacy.

cat turning on PAP

Post by tomjax » Wed Jun 22, 2005 11:41 am

A cat turning on a PAP????
and being able to do it for the breeze???

Color me skeptical, But I have had 4 pap machines and seen many others.
Ain't no way a cat would be able to turn any of them on. They simply lack the strength, much the reasoning powwer to do it.

What machine do you have?
Doubting Thomas.

This is right up there with the person who claimed he inflated an air matress with one.

Does the cat turn it on regularly or nust once by accident??

All the cat has to do is to step on the button - not accessible to them in my set-up. But I have had them scroll through my messages before I could get to them on the answering machine!

And yes, mine have learned to snuggle up with the hose - I had thought for the vibration? (my cats don't like breezes!)

Great cats you got there... But of course, ALL cats are great!!

WillSucceed,
One of the cats is all white, and must have some angora or something in him. He doesn't have hair, he has fur. Super soft and comfy (but a pain to brush.) I keep telling him, whenever he's bad, that I could make some really nice garb from him - mittens, fur trim for a hat, whatever. He just ignores me, or else comes over and rubs up and purrs, so of course I forgive him.
P.S. - He's the spoiled brat who first learned how to turn on the pap - I think the other one just copied him. They're really funny that way. If it's anything to do with HIS comfort, the white one is the first to figure something out (how to get into the food bag, how to pull a sweater off the hanger and make a nice little bed, etc. ) But if it's a new toy, or just figuring out something, no reward in sight, (like a cupboard door that doesn't have food behind it) he could care less, and the other cat will figure it out first.

And as ahujudybear said, all they have to do is step on the buttons, My machine has all the buttons right on the top of the machine. All it takes is a second of pressure to turn something on.

Tomjax,
They turn the machine on frequently. I had to disconnect the autoalarm, it went off so often last winter.

Oh, and one more thing. I'm not so sure about cats having staff. Mine seem to think that they have (or at least SHOULD have) slaves.
I really hate being woken at 4:00 am, because someone doesn't think there's adequate food is his dish. It's not empty, mind, but he'd just rather have a bit larger amount to pick and choose from.

Oh do not doubt a CAT!!! We have three indoor cats. The female has learned how to turn the AC down to her comfort level. She actually gets up on the table near the thermostat and bats it til the air comes on....she then promptly finds a vent and enjoys the cool air. One of the males learned how to turn on the desk lamp. Bankers lamp with a pull chain. I finally just decided to leave the light on 24/7 since he would turn it on anyway. If he only had thumbs.....grin!
