Women and hysterectomies

Post by Nenetx2004 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 12:43 pm

Hi all.....I've got a question for women who have had a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with OSA.

It's been a week since I had a vaginal hysterectomy. Everything went great except that after surgery while I was in recovery, they had problems getting my blood oxygen levels back up. This kind of surprised me because even while I was being diagnosed with OSA, oxygen saturation was not an issue.

Anyway, I was wondering how sleep quality changed, if at all, once a hysterectomy was performed. So far things have been better than ever. Even when I've gotten to bed later than I should, I've been waking up fairly early and have been feeling pretty good. I haven't returned to work yet so that will be the real test but just wondered if anyone else experienced a difference......

Hi Nenetx,
I have never had a hysterectomy, but had a question for you. Do you still have your ovaries? Why did you have the hysterectomy?

I had my hysterectomy at 40. Way before they found my OSA. Once starting with xpap, the hot flashes an night sweats (attributed to the hysterectomy) stopped and have not returned. That alone was a good enough reason for me to mask up every night!

They left my ovaries in. The reason I had the hysterectomy was because of uterine fibroids. The bleeding was extremely heavy and was causing me quite a bit of pain during "that time of the month".......

I hear you, Nenetx, on the pain issue. I really had no option, either. I had a hysterectomy (including ovaries and a chronic appendix... good thing they were in there!) This happened a few years before CPAP.

I found in several of my procedures and surgeries that I was told to breathe in recovery to bring up my oxygen level. Knowing that I also experienced some muscle soreness in the chest upon first starting CPAP treatment, I wonder if that development of muscle tone meant that my breathing would be more effective NOW were I to have a procedure or a surgery.

I thought that I had just felt the lessening of "warm spells" and hot flashes as a result of time passing, but you just MAY be right there, Brenda! Thanks for that thought...and you are SO right, it is another good result of CPAP.

I had a Partial Hysterectomy , many many years ago before I was diagnosed with Apnea... they left my Ovaries and they never said anything to me about a bad oxygen level

Since i've been on cpap treatment, all night sweats and hot flashes are about gone, it's great not waking up all winter and summer throwing the blankets off and fanning myself with my throw pillow

I had septum surgery in Nov. 2007 so I haven't hosed up for a long time and i'm here to tell you that the hot flashes and night sweats returned , oh how awful ...

The headaches disappered as well, yeaaaa!

Best of Luck to you,

SNM
