I revisited Melatonin last night with success!

Post by dieselgal » Mon Apr 14, 2008 8:25 am

My prior post about melatonin had asked if there was a link to melatonin and bathroom trips. Well I wanted to post about my new results.
Obviously there is no tie between the two because I used it again last night and not only did it make me very sleepy but I don't remember getting up for a bathroom trip at all. I must have had another issue the first night I took it. I hope it works as well for me every time I need it because I am trying to stay away from Ambien. The melatonin last night helped me as much as my 5mg Ambien usually does. So that is a good thing.

I use it every night and have experienced no problems with it. It was recommended by my Dr.

Glad it worked for you.

The problem with IGNORANCE is you don't know what it is that you don't know.

I don't know why I thought Melatonin was something you had to build up in your system. You can take it and, the same night, sleep well? It's a natural substance. Right? So it would be a better thing to use than Benadryl or Unisom, I'm assuming. My doc prescribed Ambien, but the only night I took it, I felt like I'd taken speed or something, heart palpitations and all. Apparently only 2% of people have that reaction, according to the pharmacist. Lucky me. I've thought about trying it again 'cause I hate to waste a prescription I paid for , but I'm kind of scared to have that reaction again. Obviously it didn't do much for my sleeping.

Thanks for the thread on Melatonin! I'm going to read up on it now.

pjwalman,

As I understand it, (I am NOT a Dr.) Melatonin is naturally produced by your body in darkness to start sleep. As we get older, our bodies produce less and less plus with the contribution of electricity, our homes are not as dark as they once were before bedtime.

Yes, I take one an hour before bedtime and I am sleepy and have no problems going to sleep with my mask on. As always, your mileage may vary (YMMV). Darkness does help your body produce it naturally. I have not heard of any side effects.
