Quest for the AHI under 8..

Post by GagReflex » Sat Apr 12, 2008 9:36 am

Probably a silly question..
Can *everybody* get under 5.0 AHI??

I can't seem to get under 8.. I managed to find the prefect mask for me and getting really close to zero leaks consistanly (Nasal Aire II)
I started with a pressure of 10 worked up slowly (many nights) to a pressure of 14 and it didn't seem to make any difference.
I also tried a few nights set to auto with a 9 - 14 range and once again I didn't get under 8.

I'm going to try tonight a lower pressure and work down over a few nights, I'm flying a little blind, but making gradual changes as has been recommended in the past. Whats the lowest pressure I should go to?

In some ways I really regret getting the software with the S8.. Sometimes it's better not knowing

Give us the breakdown of AI to HI - it makes a big difference in Resmeds.

How do you feel?

Hi ozij..

Over the last few nights:

AI = 2.3 HI = 7.3 AHI: 9.6
AI = 2.0 HI = 6.3 AHI: 8.3
AI = 4.0 HI = 4.9 AHI: 8.9
AI = 3.1 HI = 5.2 AHI: 8.3

I should I be more worried about reducing the AI's shouldn't I??

As for how I feel.. I'm still getting the headaches in the morning and generally feel terrible. When I first trialled CPAP back in February I had almost a week of no headaches and waking up wide awake in the mornings.. I want that back!!!!

Thanks heaps...

Since you're feeling bad, I'd be worried about both, though the higher HI is not surprising on the Resmed.

Try to think of all the things that were different between the first week and now - including which machine it was that you trialed.

Does that trialing mean you had no PSG?

I am new also, but didn't think I could get a low AHI, until some people here told me I was breathing through my mouth after I posted my pressure and AHI plots. viewtopic.php?p=254393#254393 . First post was similar to yours in that the AHI was high in spite of pressure changes I had made viewtopic/t29308/New-and-wondering-what ... -CPAP.html .I couldn't see a lot of difference in the leak curves, but changed to a full face Ultra Mirage mask and although it is far from a perfect fit (too large), the AHI numbers came down significantly, and remain under 4 for the first time in a month. The leak numbers are now actually higher, but the machine seems to compensate for the continuous leaks, but obviously cannot compensate for mouth breathing. Now, I can finally see the differences in machine setting, that did not have any particularly good results as long as the mouth breathing was taking place.
