I have been in CPAP for a little over a week now and I am not feeling significantly different like some people have reported.
Does it take a while to feel better?
I do feel somewhat more rested, but I am still sleeping like 9 hours a night (down from 10 to 11). I don't snore anymore, so at least that's a big improvement.
My AHI was 45 during my first sleep study, so maybe it's just going to take a while since I was on the severe side of things.
I haven't got the card reader and software yet.. still trying to decide if I have the $200 bucks or so to spend (I guess I need to if I want to pinpoint why I don't feel as good as everyone else seems to have reported).
Not Feeling Especially Rested
It can take awhile to start feeling better. It seems that people who have higher AHI's and been having apnea for longer time periods before starting treatment will take longer for the body to catch up with the therapy. It may be a slow process, but sooner or later you will notice you are feeling better.

I've been using mine for a few weeks and only have a day here and there where I actually feel good, so it's not just you. According to the machine software and the DME I'm "being effectively treated", however I don't agree with that. I just spent two hours today sleeping because I feel so tired, and yesterday I was tired and had a headache all day. If that's effectively treated, I can't understand why I'm bothering because it's truly a hassle.
I have had untreated sleep apnea for a very long time (like 20 years) and my AHI was 32 during the sleep study. So I don't know if that's part of it or if it's that I'm having a hard time finding comfort in the mask and pressure or whatever. I do sleep at night, and I do use the machine all night, but I just don't feel any more rested during the day on most days since starting it.
I do think the software and reader are worth it, though I'll be honest I didn't pay for my copy of the software. The card reader I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with the people I bought it from because it still isn't here even though I ordered it like three weeks ago.
But the DME downloaded my card and gave me copies of some of the recent data. I think it could be very useful to track what is going on, so I do think it will be absolutely worth it to see this data on a daily basis.
I hope it gets better for both of us.

Lucid,
The other possibility is that something is wrong with your treatment. Having mask leaks, mouth breathing with a nasal masks and being titrated at the wrong pressure are common problems that leave people with lots of apnea events.
Get the software so you can see what is happening.
Good luck,

It sure can.bap40 wrote:It can take awhile to start feeling better. ....

Re: Not Feeling Especially Rested
Even without the software (which you really need, anyway) you SHOULD be able to see (at least) some "numbers" in the LCD display the following day.Lucid wrote:I have been in CPAP for a little over a week now and I am not feeling significantly different like some people have reported.

Are you utilizing THAT information?
You didn't get this way overnight and the recovery won't be quick, either.
Baby steps.
