Ouch! That hurts.

Post by levittown_loser » Tue Apr 08, 2008 1:19 pm

Hi everyone. I've been using my CPAP for a week now and my nose is killing me. I'm supposed to have the Opus 360 mask, but the supplier said it was back ordered and has me using the Infinity HC481 until my Opus arrives.

The shape of the Opus nose pillows are different then the Infinity and I wonder if that is why it's bugging me? With the Infinity they really go into nose instead of sealing on the outside.

The pain is a soreness like I've been hit in the nose and kinda sensitive. It's not a burning feeling. I'm currently using my heated humidifier at 2. Do you think I should turn it up?

Will my nose "toughen up" over time? Maybe my mask is to tight?

Thanks for all the great information here! I've got my software and ran a report last night. I look forward to learning more. I feel like a new person since starting the CPAP so I'll not give up due to the pain.

Any suggestions?

Tom

There is a gel form of saline that can be used on the sore spots in your nose.. it is called Ayr gel. It may help in the meantime.. it is found in drug stores. I put a little on a Qtip and stick up my nose to the sore spot. It may help. I use it when my nose gets sore from my "opus" pillows. So don't be surprised if they cause some pain off and on also.

Tom,
Talk to your RT.
Your nose will toughen up - if you give it a break from the constant pressure.

In my case, I called the RT after 3 days and she said that pressure sores need time to heal, and they won't heal if you keep irritating them. She also said that, considering my PSG results, it was OK for me to stop for 2-3 nights (IIRC). All I needed was a one night break - that was about 3 years ago.

DreamStalker had a similar problem 3 days into therapy.

I used KY Jelly on the pillows for about 4 months - Ayr Gel wasn't available where I live. The use of either was recommended by a Resmed rep. in a discussion of the Swift.

Thanks O ... turns out my problem is really a small tiny blind pimple! ewww I know. I have not had a pimple in 10 years. I guess it was brought on from the inner nasal pad?

I'm trying to get that cleared up ASAP. Thanks!

I have the same thing. Right on the bridge of my nose. It comes and goes.

I got the little pimple rascal fixed up and had no more problems except for mask pain on my upper lip. (Infinity that I since found out has been discontinued)

I got my Opus 360 yesterday and I had a full night 7hr sleep with no interruptions on cpap!! woohoo!!! I love this new mask and I LOVE my CPAP.
