M-Series Pro Heated Humidifer leaks?

Post by Lucid » Fri Apr 04, 2008 7:50 am

I am a bit confused after reading the threads regarding heated humidifier leaks on the M-Series CPAP machines.

I have a brand new M-Series Pro with an integrated heated humidifier.

Are the new ones still having leak problems?

Should I get a stand-alone heated humidifier instead?

My machine is a rental paid for by my insurance. Since I don't own it, will the DME provider just replace it if it fails?

Thanks

They had a problem with some of them when the M Series came out in 2006. Another problem is that people were taking them apart and not getting them back together properly.

The best advice I can offer is:
ALWAYS use distilled water in them and NEVER take them apart.

Keep an eye on it for any leakage.
Supposedly they came out with a new design, recently.
Many of the M Series users have opted for the HC150 standalone humidifier which does have a larger capacity.....but does require a (short) separate connector hose and a little extra room where you have your machine set up.

I have had no problem with mine leaking. I have taken it apart to clean and air dry and again no problems putting it back together. I do take it out of my machine in the morning to make sure that it isn't bumped and spill water out. So far so good.

I've had mine for just over three months and haven't had any leaks.

I've had no problems either. [Pause while I find wood to knock on.]

I empty it every morning and take it apart to air dry. I put it together at night and fill with distilled water. I wash it once a month in the dish washer. I got one from the DME and I purchased one from cpap.com. I swap the use of them each month.

I've heard that when some folks take them apart, they take off that peculiar figure 8 shaped silicone piece and don't get it back on right. (They get it on upside down. The front side is supposed to be straight/vertical, not angled.) I take that piece off when I wash the two plastic halves in the dishwasher.

I'm just puzzled when I hear these stories about leaks. Maybe they had a bad batch in manufacturing.

And then there's the rumor about a new model of integrated HH. It's not clear from the Respironics webapge that the part numbers have been changed. Here's the part numbers on their webpage today:
"M Series Heated Humidifier, #1022257
M Series Humidifier Chamber (replacement), #1029533"
Does anyone know for sure what the part numbers were before the rumored change? i.e., are these the new numbers or has Respironics not changed them on the webpage yet?

No problems with any leaks, on my unit, have my machine sitting on a plastic tray because as you have read some others having problems, I didn't want to chance it. I just top mine off every night, and wash it once a week without taking it apart, about once a month I take it all apart and wash it with vinegar and water equal parts. I think you will be fine, just reassemble it the right way.

I will refference you to this thread which has pictures of the latest version of the integrated HH on the M series.

So far I have not had any problems with mine leaking. I've only used it a couple weeks. I do not fill it up to the water line, only about a quarter of that much, because I only set it on 1 or 2 at night. I take it out in the morning and empty out any remaining water and let it dry until the next night. I can see where tipping it accidentally while it's in the machine might be bad, but if you are careful about that and don't crack the chamber or anything I don't see how it would leak actually *shrug*
