Neck problems

Post by brandyII » Mon Mar 31, 2008 9:27 pm

Anyone suffering from neck pain since they've been wearing the mask?

Thanks, brandyII.

sometimes it may be the way you wear the lower strap, it can cut off your circulation, try pull the headgear up or depending on the mask, reverse the headgear and wear it upside down.

It seems when we wear the mask we make an unconscious effort to wear a stiff neck.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Snoredog,

That's what I was thinking that I was doing it subconsciously or is it unconsciously either way I guess that's it. I'm pretty good at keeping the straps loose now since I was getting pains in my head too. I'm still trying to figure out how I'd wear it upside down though Thanks brandyII

Time to try different kinds of pillows for you head at night.

A Tempurpedic contoured
A Target's shapeable
O one of those made specifically for cpap users.

I found that my mask was leaking and I was subconsusly tilting my head at an odd angle to close the leak. When you wake up check to see if your head is at an unnatural angle.

sore neck

Post by brandyII » Thu Apr 03, 2008 6:55 pm

Thanks for all the advice,

I'm at the point now where I think I'm going to have to hit the chiropractor and I've never been to one before. Should be interesting to see if he can relate some of my problems to the CPAP machine or not since none of the other specialists have. Thanks, brandyII.

Yep, I did have neck pain after sleeping "en masque", or at least worse neck pain, since I already had it pre cpap.

Now I use a combination of the Headrest mask (good for side sleepers) and a synthetic down pillow. The synthetic down gives so that the mask is not bumped. The design of the headrest allows me to put my cheek fully on the pillow without trying to hang the mask over the side of the pillow to prevent leaks.

Once I found this combo, my neck pain was helped a lot. Since I already had neck pain, I didn't need more.

A person could use regular down instead of the synthetic, but I'm allergic to regular down.

RosemaryB, thanks for the info. I don't know much about all the different masks, you can see a picture of what I have. I guess it's possible it's not the mask either so I think I'll just check out what the chiro has to say. Thanks, brandyII. I post once I see him to see if they say anything useful.
