Smart Card Reader for EncoreViewer/EncorePro

Post by karlchrisb » Wed Apr 02, 2008 3:11 pm

I found what I believe to be a reputable US company that sells the Mako Infineer DT-3500 USB Smart Card Reader:
http://www.securetech-corp.com/mako_dt.html

I called and spoke to a very nice lady and then put my order through on their website. I believe this to be a good price at $49.99. I will let you know if/how much they add for the shipping and how long it takes for me to get it.

I thought I would also list the Eastern company's website, even though they aren't responding to my emails and show "In Stock: no" in case anyone wants to risk ordering from them since they are the least expensive ($24.00) distributor found thus far:
http://www.two-factor.com/shop/index.php?productID=115

Peace and Hugs,
Chris

WOW - FAST! Here is the email I just received - same day as ordered!

DHL Shipment Notification
Greetings from DHL!
On April 2, 2008 a shipment label was printed by S. Stone (310-547-8501) of SECURE TECH PERIPHERALS for delivery to Chris XXXXXXXX. The shipment number of this package is ###########.

Also included the "estimate" with shipping. I chose 2nd. Day DHL which added $25.00 for a total of $74.00. Choosing just ground service would probably drop shipping significantly. I just want the darn thing fast! LOL

So, for probably $60 you can get this from them relatively quickly. That is $20 - $34 more than the one from China directly (again, depending on shipping). It is worth it to me for the security of knowing that it is a US company and they are shipping DHL.

Hope this helps someone!

I have been noticing that none of those listings mention Windows XP. Do they work with that?

Software compatibility...

Yes, I have read the "specs" on the DT-3500 and it will work with most Windows incarnations: 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, etc.

Yep, it works on all of them but the driver for Vista is different. I think it is included but it does take a different one. I run XP on both of my machines and hope I NEVER have to go to Vista.

The DT-3500 works with XP and Vista with the later software. Jim

My question is has anybody found Encore Viewer cheaper than $139.00? If you don't have the software yet it is really not much cheaper than the bundle CPAP.com has for sale. However, if you need a replacement reader this is a good price. Thanks for the link.

When I was looking for the card reader and Two-factor was sold out, the sales staff at Two-factor recommended http://www.securetech-corp.com/smart.html

Remember, if you find a less expensive vendor, cpap.com will match the price. And you can always count on great customer service from cpap.com.

Cpap.com won't match this one. They only sell the Respronics brand. Even though they are made by the same people when Respronics stamps their name on it the price goes up. They will match the Respronics brand.

Sent you a PM. Upper right corner.

Buying the card reader from overseas was never that great a deal, what with shipping cost and the time involved. And that was when they had product to ship, which has often been problematical.

And you need the software anyway. Might as well buy the card reader/software combo bundle.

DirectHome Medical sells the card reader for $70, the sofftware for $135, total of $205. But the combo costs only $155.

Even if you buy the card reader for $50 at securetech, you won't find the software for $105, so you end up paying more.

cpap.com price matched the DHM price for me a couple months ago.

Buy two cards, one for daily use and one for backup.

If you have a newer computer, be _certain_ to buy the USB version of the card reader, not the one with the serial connector. Check your computer to be certain.

Shipping from two factors in H. C. is 1/3 of the cost of shipping U.S. to U.S., who's screwing you now. Jim

I checked until I found that two-factors had the card readers in stock. I wanted to make sure I had a back-up so I ordered two of them at $24.00 and the cost of shipping wasn't any greater than if I had only purchased one. In this way I got TWO of the card readers for under $60.00.

I am using one of the card readers and the other I put up to have in case this one fails (which I know shouldn't -- but hey we have back up machines so why not back up equipment).

I would recommend this route to anyone that wants to be sure to get the card readers at the lowest price possible.

https://www.cpap.com: "_free_ shipping over $100."
Combo bundle is $155 (price matched).
Remember, you still need the software. And card.
So, 1/3 of zero is ... what?

> who's screwing you now.

Not cpap.com, that's for sure.

You should have bought a lottery ticket that day.

All together now, "Out of Stock". Again (4/3/08).
