Need some help - ResScan Data Card Issues
Are there any ResMed/ResScan gurus out there? I just purchased a ResMed VPAP Auto, and I bought the ResScan software and card reader to go along with it. The package included 2 ResScan data cards. I was able to install the software and drivers for the card reader without issue (I thought) and tried to download the data from my machine onto the data card so I could import the information into the ResScan software. Here is where the problem begins.
When I inserted the card into the VPAP, I received the expected “Card Inserted please wait” message. A few seconds later I received the “Copy Complete Remove card” message, as I should. I then insert the card into the card reader and . . . nothing. ResScan does not recognize any device to download data from. For the next hour and a half, I uninstalled and re-installed the ResScan software, uninstalled and re-installed the card reader’s drivers MULTIPLE times, and still nothing. When I go to settings in the ResScan software and then “Select Device”, the only device displayed with a green check mark is listed as “Unrecognized Device”. After hacking at this for a while, I began to wonder if perhaps I had a bad Data Card. Luckily, I had a second card on hand to test with. I retrieved the second card from its envelope and inserted it into the card reader, fired up ResScan and VIOLA! I was immediately able to read the data (Though I had copied none of mine onto it yet) from the card while in ResScan. Now that I verified the card is good, I attempted to download the data from my VPAP Auto. Once again, I received the expected “Card Inserted please wait” message. Again, a few seconds later I received the “Copy Complete Remove card” message. After, I removed the card and returned it to the card reader on my PC. After launching ResScan, I attempted to do another import with the same result as before - nothing. When I checked Settings Select Device in ResScan, I saw the same result (Unknown Device) for the previously tested card.
What gives? Any advice? Trick you know about I should be doing?

I just had a similar issue, detailed in THIS THREAD. I had to disable (in device manager) both my wireless network adapter AND my laptops on-board webcam. Only then would ResScan reliably recognize the card in the reader.
1] Do you have ResScan 3.3 or 3.4? It "might" be that ResScan 3.4 may be needed for the new VPAP Auto. I haven't tried downloading to 3.3. I'll have to dig out my laptop and try it to see if they are compatable. The VPAP Auto is NOT compatable w/AutoScan 5.7. I already tried that.
2] After opening ResScan, up in the left corner of the Tool Bar is a Start button. You MUST click on that Start button to activate the next steps. Once you click on that it activates the larger icons in the middle of the page. They won't work w/o doing that.
3] You then have to click on New Patient to start a file. Fill in what data you want to provide but it must at least have some type of patient ID. You can't open a file that doesn't exist.
Ha! Now I've forgotten what I had to do next!!! I've established my Patient File and just have to click on Open Patient File to go about downloading my data. What can I say? Its been 4 whole days since I started my file!!! You don't really expect me to remember a one time act I did 4 days ago, do you??
4] When you have a Patient File established, and click on Open Patient file, you will see the patient ID in the lower left hand corner of the same page under Patient Name. OR if you've established more than one patient file, a new page will pop up, you have to click on the file you want and click on Open at the bottom right side and that page will send you back to the previous page and the file's ID will appear in the lower left hand corner under Patient Name.
5] Now is a good time to click on the gray w/the white arrowhead in it that's in the vertical black line to the left of the page. That will dispose of the stuff to the left of the line and widen the page you'll be working with.
6] When you click on the Download Data icon a new smaller page will pop up. Be sure to click on the Select button to right of the Data box. Chose what or how much you want to download. So far I've selected All Available Data but I'll be using Selected Data and Selected Detailed Data Sessions and First instead tomorrow. Then click on Okay.
7] Read over what appears on the next page (it should state the VPAP Auto) and if you're satisfied click on Start Download and let the software and reader do their thing.
8] When the download is complete, click on Okay. You are back to the Start page. You will notice towards the upper left hand of the page Data and some dates. Click on the day's date you want. A gray bar will shade the date you selected. Now click on the gray w/the white arrowhead in it that's in the vertical black line to the left of the page to widen the working page again.
9] Now click on the Review button. Click on Detailed Graphs at the top of the page.
10] Click on the date in the box. Near the top of the page your VPAP Auto should appear in the Product box and the serial number of your VPAP Auto.
BEFORE you do ANY of this check your PM!!!!

Than you for the quick reply. I saw the reply you are referring to, but I do not think it applies to my situation - I am using a desktop PC, with no wireless or webcams attached. I have also tried the software /card reader combo on an additional 2 PCs with the same results.
I am at a loss to explain the problem other than perhaps my VPAP is corrupting the cards somehow.

Another thing I noticed that may be worth mentioning:
When I am in Windows, and the card reader is plugged in with the smart card inserted, the green LED flashes once every second (or there abouts). Once I launch ResScan, this light pattern changes to 3 rapid flashes, a pause, then 3 rapid flashes again in a cycle.

Duh, BillBolton!!!! Such a simple solution! I go thru all those steps and all that typing ... and I never thought to suggest that. DUH!
Gold plate DOWN in the VPAP Auto, gold plate UP in the card reader!!!
Like did I remember to plug the cord into the wall plug? Color me red-faced!!
Thank you, BillBolton. (((hugs)))
Phurious, I'll dig out my laptop and do a download to 3.3 w/this VPAP Auto and see wha' hoppens. After I wash the egg off my face.
And Slinky goes slinking away into the sunset .....

Yes sir - and I get nowhere. As I mentioned in the above post, I actually get further if I put the card in upside down or backwards.billbolton wrote:Just checking.... you are putting the ResScan card into the reader with the gold contacts showing on the top side.... that is, opposite to the way that you put it into the Flow Generator (contacts on the down side).
Cheers

Well then, check your PMs. See if that helps. I didnt' get the laptop out before but will do so now and check out the VPAP w/3.3 and see wha' hoppens. Remember what I said about checking your settings on your VPAP and writing them down BEFORE you do anything else w/the software.

ResScan
I got the reader and the 3.3 software. Didn't work at all. Then I went back and meticulously read the instructions (download the .pdf version of the Clinician's Manual on the CD), deleted everything I'd aleady done, did it again, inserted the card correctly in each place, and it works like a dream. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Thanks, Capri. Every time I head for the laptop the phone has rung or someone has come to the house!!!
