Nasal Pillows and Auto Machine

Post by bap40 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 9:54 am

I have heard that if one is using nasal pillows, they don't work as well with an Auto machine compared to plain CPAP.

Is there any truth to this fact????

The first time I tried to use my pillows with my new A/Flex, I could not keep a seal at all and was wondering why? Then I read about the use with Auto's and don't know if it is fact or fiction?

Any input out there?

I haven't had any problem with my set up. but the Goodnights don't have any pressure relief (C-flex or A-flex).

I just switched to a Swift II a few days ago on my M Series Bipap auto, and it seems to work very well. I used to have some leak issues with my Comfortgel as the pressure rose, and so far the pillows have done a great job.

No problems with my 420E auto and Headrest Nasal Pillows. Have you tried tying a strap made from women's tights or a strip of cloth? That might help.

Good Luck,

Same here - no problem with my 420E and the Headrest. And not with the Breeze either.

Okay then. What I was told must have been a falsehood. I didn't think it sounded right to me either. I believe it came from my EX DME and this just adds another X-mark on my growing list of stories I was told.

Thanks again for adding to my knowledge base!

Sounds like something got garbled down the chain. Maybe it started as "I'm using a nasal pillows mask, and I'm using an APAP. I don't like the Auto function, and run straight CPAP instead." Which is MY story.

I don't like the Auto function because it "breathes" in a weird way which I find disconcerting. Had nothing at all to do with my mask. Mask worked fine. It was the machine's function I didn't like. Don't get me wrong - I could still sleep. I just found the straight CPAP more comfortable.

Cheers,
Babs
