Hearing pulse in ears all the time

Post by Country4ever » Wed Mar 19, 2008 9:14 am

Hi all,
This seems to be getting worse, but I'm hearing my pulse in my ears all the time. I drink enough water. It seems to have started up last year, when I came off a beta blocker. I hope that med didn't cause something permanent.
I don't think the CPAP is contributing to it.
Its very distracting. Anyone else with this problem?

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes ... YES!
And, my friend, I think it is caused my high blood pressure.

My PCP has been warning me about high blood pressure, and I have been hearing the muffled pulse in my ears for a little while. She informed me that lack of sleep can cause high blood pressure (who knew?). I am guilty of getting no more than 4-5 hours a night. When I do sleep enough, though, I don't hear it. See if it is more prominent during "stressful" situations.

Also, if you are new to CPAP, you may need to have your settings adjusted. You may be sleeping for an extended period of time, but not actually "sleeping".

I'm interested to see how things turn out. Please take care of yourself, and keep us posted.

If only he knew about sleep apnea.

AND, it could be something even more serious. My mother experienced this. It turned out to be a benign meningioma on the pituitary. And don't let the "benign" lull you into a false sense of security. Despite its being benign it continues to grow until treated. Insist that your family doctor refer you to a neurologist and/or that this is followed up on until an answer is found and other possibilities are ruled out.

Good luck and God bless. May it be something easily treated.

Just get referred to a neurologist. It may be nothing much, but as others said, you don't want to take chances.

I agree with all above. I had the ear pulse and could indeed tell when I was more stressed just by the increased loudness. Now I would check with your doctor.

For me My BP was 200/100 a year ago.. was told to double my BP meds. instead I did the "Joy Juice" 1 qt apple juice,1 pt grape juice, 1/2 c. apple cider vinegar and 1/4 c. honey . Small juice glassful once daily...

My Bp now is 140/80...Thats me.... may not work for everyone but my doctor is aware of it and says,"can;t argue with results.. It could have been in combination with the use of the Cpap but I will keep it up.
Good Luck

Where did you get that concoction? Do you still take your original BP meds?
I might be willing to try that myself.

thanks everyone,

I have told my doctor and he didn't seem to be concerned. He's a very good Internist. I have also told my ENT.
My internist seemed to think it was from coming off the beta blocker and that it was normal in some people.
I had high blood pressure during perimenopause, but it came down once I was through that.
That pituitary thing doesn't sound like any fun! I'll have it checked out.
Thanks!

Yes, it is something like the'Jogging in the Jar" which was sold years ago at grocery stores. May not be all the same ingredients or proprotations but similair. According to the statements on the web.

The FDA stopped them selling because it had not been proven that it would do as claimed. BUT..I understand it is being sold under a different name. Probably dropped the claims but looks like someone would like to do some research to make it a negative or a positive. I ,for one have it for over a year and am satisfied. My BP had not been under 160/92 since the 1980's which was in my mid 40's..

I pulled it up from the computer. When I was ask to double my meds.. I researched on the web for ." High blood pressure/alternative treatment ".. and many many links came up with people swearing by this mixture and I thought it worth trying. after 5 weeks my BP was down to 150/87.then last fall at the pulmonologist it was 140/80. I discussed it with my regular doctor, pulmonologist and they were NOT negative about it.. I really felt kind of reluctant to mention but thought it best they knew and was pleased that they did not discourage it.. Ido take my BP at home as well as at the
doctors. I am a retired RN. Like I said it may not be for everyone and probably not but I'm satisfied.

I wonder if you also checked your blood glucose after this concoction?
Many on cpap who are overweight either have or will soon have diabetes.

This would not be good for that.

I also had that problem. As it turns out the drum corps was practicing three blocks down the street. So much for sleeping in that morning.

Seriously, though... In my case I think it's also related to hypertensive spells. And I most definitely notice it more while sleep deprived.

I had "pulsilatory tinitis" (sp?) for a while too, and it just about made me crazy. Then it just stopped. If it ever comes back I am headed straight for the doctor, because when I looked it up online there are many reasons for it, some totally benign, some very very bad.

I mix that amount.... but only drink a 4-6 oz glass one time daily..

Blood sugar is doing O"K. No diabetes.

My husband was telling me that research is showing that if you can keep a person's BP down, they are much less likely to become diabetics. And the BP lowering drug that seems to work the best at preventing diabetes (in hypertensives) are the angiotensin-blocking drugs. Interesting.

My husband takes my BP on a regular basis and its normal. However he also told me that people who are the most likely to have heart attacks and strokes from high BP are those who have a BP spike during the night. Many people with high BP have lower pressures at night, but then there are those whose BP spikes at the night. Those are the people at higher risk for heart attacks and strokes. He said that they are aware that some have apnea-induced hypertension also.
So several of the drug companies who are testing new BP drugs are asking for 24 hour BP monitoring, rather than just checking the pressure in the office during the day.

Back to the ears.........I had really bad tinnitus for a long time, but it went away awhile back. YAY! That can drive you NUTS! But ever since I got off the beta blocker, I've had this pulse in my ears. I'm going to cut out caffeine and sugar and lower my salt intake and see if that helps. Its not going to be easy at first, but hopefully it will pay off.
