Progess report

Post by Brian2 » Tue Mar 18, 2008 7:52 am

I would welcome advice and feedback on the following:

I have just completed my first 3 months on CPAP. In general I feel much better although I have never felt the “lamb in spring” that so many seem to experience. I found about 6 weeks ago that I was getting a bit results obsessive and so I purposely stopped looking at and recording any results and just went on how I was feeling. I did take regular looks to see my AHI/AI/HI levels and they were under the 5 almost all the time.
I recently purchased the Resscan software and card reader and downloaded all the data to see the results and I was a bit surprised by the leak data.

The results for the last month were:
Settings Minimum pressure 8.4 cmH²O
Settings Maximum Pressure 20.0 cmH²O
Pressure Median 8.6
Pressure 95th Percentile 10.0
Pressure Maximum 11.2
Leak – L/min Median 1.2 L/min
Leak - 95th Percentile 22.8 L/min
Leak - Maximum 37.2 L/min
AHI – Events/hr 4.0
AI – Events/hr 0.3
AHI – Events/hr 3.7
Average daily usage 6.50 hrs
% days > 4 hrs 100

Compared to the 2 previous months my AHI/HI/AI has come down slightly as the AHI was averaging just above 5.0.The leak rates are about the same. I did have a period about a month into treatment when the Leak - 95th Percentile was down to 12 L/min. This was for a few weeks, but of late it is getting higher but does not seem to affect the AHI/AI/HI results which are staying constant.

I have had the occasional night when the leaks have been way up for an hour or so and I have not known about until I looked at the data. I have a few nights when the AI has been zero.

I have noticed that I get a bad half an hour for leaks at about 4 o’clock each morning for some reason.

I suppose I have two choices: Leave well alone as I feel OK and the AHI/HI/AI is below 5 or try harder to find a way to get leak rates down. What would you advise?

When first diagnosed I had an apnoea rate of 74 events per hour so there is certainly lots of improvement.

Brian

Sounds like you're doing great! I wouldn't change a thing. Your leak rate should be l/s(leaks per second) with the resmed machine. Any leak under .40 is OK.

Hi Brenda,
thanks for the reply. The Resmed software gave a choice of L/sec or L/min so i chose L/min

If those are leak per min, I would try to fix some of the leaks. Lower leaks may mean lower AHI.
