Newbie Question

Post by cupcake » Fri Mar 14, 2008 12:54 am

Hi everyone. Have found this forum extremely helpful. I am a newbie. Wondered what you reckon about my numbers. Diagnosed with AHI of 24. My pressure range on my new machine is 6 to 14. Looked at my data from last night:
AI was 0.3
HI was 4.1
AHI was 4.4

I reckon the AI looks fantastic, but should I look at doing something to reduce the HI? I think the leak is okay for my mask (max of 30.0 l/min with median of 6.0 and 95th percentile of 13.2) Pressure was max of 13.8 with median of 8.6 and 95th percentile of 11.2.

I know it is very early days (have trialled machines for 5 weeks before buying my equipment on Monday of this week)

Any feedback would be wonderful.

Anything under 5 is considered normal for the AHI. Give your self a couple of weeks with your new machine to see if the numbers stay consistant.
Resmed machines are said to score more hypopneas than other machines. I wouldn't worry about them too much at this point.
For a newbie you are doing great! Keep collecting data, and in a week or 2 post(unless there is a problem before that). Keep up the good work.

Brenda

I second what Brenda said. After a few weeks, you can see what your data looks like, and maybe tighten your pressure boundaries to lower your AHI.

Great start to your CPAP therapy! Congrats!

Take Care,
Cathy

Your numbers look fine, cupcake. I wouldn't worry one bit about trying to reduce the data numbers any.

As Brenda mentioned, resmed machines seem to report a higher "HI" (hypopnea index) than other brands do. That doesn't mean that one brand's hypopnea report is correct and another's is not...it's simply a difference in the way different brands define and report hypopneas.

Looks like your setting range is doing a good job for you.
