Hi Everyone,
I'm new here, but 6 years with CPAP. Was diagnosed with severe OSA in 2002. Was set up with a Remstar Plus at 12cm... they gave me the stupid crossover humidifier, which only works with hot water, and as soon as it cooled, humidity plummeted and left me dry... Bought the heated Humidifier off Ebay, and that made it much better... Went thru several masks before going with the Fisher & Paykel HC405 Large.
My 2nd sleep test was in 2006, and they dropped me to 6cm, but left me with the same clunky machine...
Just had a new Sleep test with my New Insurance, Kaiser, and it was the take home test... my number was 47.1. Just sent me home with the remstar Pro Auto for the weekend to determine my current pressure need, then will send the script over to Apria Healthcare for the machine...
From what I have been reading here, the Remstar M series Pro Auto with A-flex and the humidifier seems to be the majority vote as one of the best machines... I only pay 150.00 as my part.
Anyway, even though I have been using CPAP for 6 years, I have really never questioned any of the Docs or RT's... are their any specifics I should be asking, or things I should say to get the specific machine I want?
Thanks,
Dave

The first question I would ask is why they have given you the bottom of the line machine incapable of recording efficacy data to monitor your condition and treatment.
It's like a doctor giving you an Rx for severe diabetes or hypertension and then saying come back in 4 years if your still alive.
Welcome to the forum!
Empower yourself to take control of your treatment and your life ... best wishes!
... and yes, demand an AFLEX machine, but get yourself the F&P HC 150 stand alone humidifer instead of the M series integrated one.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Welcome -- n5xmt....Hmm. Looks like a Ham call to me....
First is to look at the yellow light bulb (Our Collective Wisdom) and the red baloon (CPAP FAQ)........Read, read, read. Then read some more.
Dreamstalker is right -- it's up to you to take control of your treatment. Your doctors don't seem to have done you any favors other than to diagnose you and provide a prescription for a machine. Even though it's a low end machine, it's better than no machine!!!!
Get your self that Remstar Auto M-Series with data collection. Procure the software and card reader (Encore Viewer is the S/W and you can find links to a relatively inexpensive card reader in the links section - I don't recall the web site, but I got mine directly from Hong Kong for like $30 or $35).
Educate yourself on the affliction and soon you'll be telling the doctors things they have no clue about!!! When you go to the doc, ask for what you want. If the doc balks or refuses, me thinks you need to find another doc, though with Kaiser that may be problematic.
There are RT's, DME's and at least one Doc here on the forum.....Along with the rest of us!!!! You found a good place to hang out!!!
Good Luck -- Take care!!
cheers

Wars arise from a failure to understand one another's humanness. Instead of summit meetings, why not have families meet for a picnic and get to know each other while the children play together?
