Two nights on new auto pap. Good News.

Post by sososleepy » Mon Mar 03, 2008 1:23 pm

I first want to than everyone who responded to my post. Here is the thread-
viewtopic.php?t=28861&highlight=

All of your suggestions were very helpful. I set up my m-series autopap with a- pap, downloaded the software and everything went smoothly.
I decided to set the machine on auto from 5-10. I was a bit nervous to go to high to start and started at 5 because i used my ramp of 4-6 on the other machine so i thought i would start at 5 and see how the numbers look.
I don't have time to upload the chart today but here is how the numbers look.I'll post what i think is important solet me know if more info is needed.
1st night
Average 90% cpap-9.0
Total AHI-2.0
Average leak-31.00
FL-1.2
OA-0.0
H-1.2
AHI-1.2
I wanted to mention that the 1st night i wore the opus mask with a nasal strip and chinstrap. This seems to work better then when i don't use the nasal strip. I felt better the next day. I played with my 6 yr old all day and had energy to shop at night. I don't know if it's the change but i haven't had a good day like this in months. Not so the 2nd night.
2nd night-(last night)- Used the quattro ffmask.
Average 90% cpap-8.0
Total AHI-6.4
Average leak-32.00
FL-0.0
OA-10.9
H-5.5
AHI-16-9
This is information from the encore viewer software.
Today i feel like crap. I know you guys would probably like to see the charts to make suggestions but i don't have time to teach myself how to do that today. I'll try and check in later. I'm off to the bus stop to get my daughter.
I'm so happy that i had such a good day yesterday. I know it's wishful thinking but just maybe this therapy will help me now with this new machine. It looks like the average pressure from both nights is 9.0.
I'm thinking i need to bump up my low number to at least 7.0 or should i go for 9.0?? Also, what do you guys think of the difference in numbers between the two nights? Is it likley the different masks?. Thank you all so much:) Hugs, Sososleepy

Glad to hear you made it through the night!

One thing to look at would be if you had any large leaks - it should show percent of time spent in large leak. When you're in large leak I gather that other stuff won't be recorded.

I'll leave it to the gurus on the forum to suggest pressure settings!

Mindy

Thinking Mindy is probably right--those drastically different numbers are probably due to large leaks which make most/all of the data unreliable. And, that you changed masks from one night to the next makes the large leak suspect as well. Did your report mention large leaks? Hang in there--you'll feel better eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later. It does take some time to get everything working as it should, and to adjust. I tend to agree that your low number, 5, might be a bit too low. Good luck!

Glad to hear you had such a good day playing with your son, after a good night's sleep.

Sorry the second night didn't go quite so well, but that happens. Possibly could have been the difference in the two masks as you mentioned. Or maybe a difference in leaks.

Anyway, you're well equipped now to treat and monitor yourself.

I think you're right to think that.

7 or 8, yep....that's what I'd do if it were me, but I'm no doctor.

For some reason, when I use my Quattro FF mask, my AHI's are always higher--usually greater than five. I have tried lowering my EPAP pressure, then thinking maybe it might have something to dowith the added dead space of the mask, I tried raising the EPAP from 12 to 13 to 14, and it didn't seem to make alot of difference. I get a very good seal with the mask.
When I use my liberty, my AHI goes back down to between 2 and 3. I'm not sure what's up with the quattro, and I really love the mask. I get a great seal, and no leaks.

Thanks so much for your responses. It lools like i'm good regarding large leaks.0.0 both nights.
I plugged my smart card into the reader this morning and last nights info didn't record, what could have happened? Iknow it was inserted correctly cause i checked it before i went to sleep. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Sososleepy

Download and install the card utility from mycpap.org. Then format (erase) the card.

What was the prescription pressure that was recommended by a sleep study?

I'll try that, Thank you!

Thank you xyz!
My perscribed pressure is 6.0. However, the titration was done with a nasal mask and no chinstrap. I basically slept with my mouth open and air gagging me all night. It was really not a good study in my opinion. I have since realized that i am a mouth breather so I suspect that the pressure might be wrong. Thanks so much for helping me. Sososleepy

Then you should probably be using a FF mask.

> I suspect that the pressure might be wrong.

The 90% numbers that you got (8, 9) appear to say so.

I use a Quattro. I believe that it is the best (for me) FF mask that I have ever used in terms of leaks. I didn't have a data capable machine back when I used the other masks, but it sure feels that way. Perhaps there is a problem with the _size_ of the mask for you. Or possibly it isn't adjusted right.

In general, you don't want to draw any conclusions from one night's data.

It sounds like you got bitten by the infamous M-Series bug! It's ok to erase, as xyz noted. Be aware, however, that when you do that, you do lose the compliance info some docs are interested in looking at.

Some people think erasing prevents the problem, others not so sure. I'm in the latter category. I lost data sporadically for the first couple of months and hardly ever lose any now. My suspicion is that I don't sleep as long now. I usually lost the data on weekends when I slept 8 1/2 to 9 hours. I don't do that anymore.

I can't prove my pet theory any more than anyone else has been able to prove theirs.

If you don't have an issue with your doc missing compliance data, then by all means, erase daily. If you do it daily, it probably would prevent the problem.

Good point. I neglected to say that I read my card every day, save the output to a .pdf file, and enter the important numbers into an excel spreadsheet. Then using the card utility I save a .bin file of the card and only then format the card.

Because of the occasional card problem, it's a good idea to get a spare one. They're cheap.
