S8 AutoSet Vantage setup question . . .

Post by hobbs » Tue Mar 04, 2008 12:09 am

Will soon be receiving my new S8 AutoSet. Have been on a straight cpap for five years with a pressure of 12. Suggestions as to what min and max pressure to start with?
From what I have learned here, I think a 10 to 15 range would be a good start. I hope I am one of the ones that does well on apap, other wise I will take the 95% nightly pressure and set it up as a cpap. Thanx in advance for your input.

10-15 sounds OK. Maybe try a little lower.

Starting out I would set the low side to 8. No use in running a higher pressure than you require. Leave the high end at 15 to start with untill you see where your range is going to settle in at. You need to leave the settings at least a week before you change anything. One or two nights does NOT give you a good indication, then change only one thing at a time for at least a week. Besides what else you got to do <smille> Cheers jim

yeah I agree with Jim.

I started at 6 and could hardly breathe. Looking at my results for a month, I decided to go to 9 and haven't changed it since.

Changing the minimum to 9 also made my maximum come down as well.

Why would that be so?

My question is: Was your previous CPAP a data-capable machine?
If it was NOT, I would suggest setting your new machine up comparable to your old one and running it in straight pressure to see how you do at that.....in other words.....set a "baseline".

Then, depending on how your data looks, is when you could try different settings.

It helps to know where you've been, before knowing where you're going.

Old machine was not data capable. Since it has been 5+ years since my sleep study (split night), I assumed it would be better to set up as a apap to check if a pressure of 12 is still what was needed.

I still think it would be a good idea to see how your previous pressure was serving you and whether you were getting any leakage at that pressure. If you're still seeing a number of events at 12, then I'd set the bottom pressure at 12 and the top to something like 15.
