OT: Happy Sadie Hawkins Day!!!

Post by Slinky » Fri Feb 29, 2008 8:15 am

Ah, February 29th! It only comes around once every 4 years. I remember as a teen the fun we had on Sadie Hawkins Day! The girls invited the guys to a formal dance and provided the transportation and dinner, plus some form of home-made corsage for the guy. My Sadie Hawkins Day corsage for my guy was made of various vegetables: lettuce, a carrot, a radish .... my formal was a pretty sort of mint green .... we had a hoot!!!

I guess the young folks don't celebrate Sadie Hawkins day any more. You are telling your age if you remember.

Heck, maybe my WIFE will ask me out to dinner in honor of Sadie Hawkins Day! Does that count?

Jerry

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting: "Wow what a ride!"

Hey, Jerry, at your age, ANY body inviting you out to dinner counts!!! Even if is just to McDonald's. (Watch the cholesterol and trans fats!!).

Hey Jerry, you tell her I asked you out already for Sadie Hawkins - she'll have to stand in line!!!!

So funny, I was JUST thinking about this last night too! I was wondering WHO Sadie Hawkins really was. I was surprised there wasn't an indepth biopic on her on PBS. Ken Burns should do one.

Al Capp would have a field day today in this political world.

His satire was cutting wedge, but far ahead of its time.

And who remembers the shmoos?

Hilary and Obama are promising them to everyone.
A great way to get votes.

They are directly denying that there is no such thing as a free lunch.
They are promising one to eveeryone who needs one by taking it from those who produce.

To each according to need, from each according to ability.
Say it loud and often enough and denough will believe it.
What a country!!

I remember the shmoon! I loved the darling little things. I had a Shmoo Soap On A Rope I treasured for YEARS!

In fact, I think sometime after is when I started NOT liking kids. A relative came to visit one day w/the unmannerly brats and my mom gave one of them my Shmoo Soap On A Rope to play with and the little monster destroyed it.

My parents were divorced when I was quite young and sometime between first and 3rd grade a HUGE box arrived one day around Easter. Among other things in the box was a tall, stuffed Pluto dog. He was as tall as I was at the time. I had Pluto for years. He was getting rather grubby and had lost one ear but I loved him.

Sure enough, as a teen I was gone from the house, came home and no more Pluto. Mother let somebody's brats take him home. I called to get him back and he had been torn by the little brats and the mother had thrown him away.

Gads! Then I turned around and had 4 of my own kids!!!! Not very smart considering I was the one who didn't like kids!!

Oh tomjax,

Will you marry me? I would love to make you happy.

Please say yes, after all, it is my right to ask you on Sadie Hawkins' Day!! I will even cook up some shmoos for you. Do you like them fried?

What, no one is looking for me? Huh? Oh well... maybe next time I'll get chosen -- if I don't hide so well.

Oh Nodzy, honey, I wouldn't chase you down on Sadie Hawkins Day....

That might entail MARRIAGE.

And you KNOW I'm not the marrying kind...
