I am a newbie using CPAP. Need Help!

Post by JFreak » Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:50 pm

I have been using CPAP for almost a month. I could not sleep with it.
Sometimes I wake up and take the CPAP out unintentionally. In the morning, I just realize that I already took it out.

I am using CPAP that cover just my nose. Everytime when I roll, I wake up with the CPAP come lose.

Anyone advise would help.

I think that the mask is probably going to be your key here. Masks are a highly individual choice, and it may take you a while to find the mask that works best for you. I love my Aura Headrest, I sleep on my side with no problems. The only bad thing about it for me is the mask is highly prone to rainout. I'm sure that others will be along to recommend different masks to try. For now, get in touch with your DME and tell them that the mask isn't working for you and that you want to try another mask. You can also look in the Mask Roulette thread to see if you can get in and try some masks. Good luck, don't give up.

The first thing I learned to help make any mask tolerable for me was to have the hose come from above my head - that immediately made even the first (not-good-for-me) masks better.

I took the kind of hook you use to hang pictures on, nailed it to the wall about a foot or a bit more above the level of my pillow. Took a hair scrunchy, tied a (clean...) shoelace throught it, and used the shoelace to hang the scrunchy on the hook. Passed the hose through the scruchy - and things got better, even, like I said, with masks I eventually did not use.

O.
