Silicone Seal on FF Mask No Longer Clear

Post by reidlb » Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:55 pm

Hello all.

Here is another newbie question. (I looked at the "Our Collective Wisdom" for masks, but didn't find my answer there.)

I have used my Mirage Quattro mask for about 3 weeks now. When I was washing it this morning (with baby shampoo and warm water), I noticed that the silicone seal is no longer perfectly clear. It looks sort of whitish now. Is this normal? Does it still work OK? Does it need to be replaced? What might I have done to cause it?

Thanks.

Laurie

Hi Laurie, I've had my quattro for about 3 months and it is beginning to get that way too. I wash mine with Dawn though and I use a vinegar and water solution to wash it weekly (after letting it soak for awhile in it). 50/50.

Be sure not to use any face creams and keep your face freshly washed to minimize leaks.

They do sell replacements but they are expensive ($69???). Better to try to keep yours intact as much as possible.

By the way, when I used to use baby wash, I noticed it wasn't as clear as with the Dawn. There are some here that don't like using dish soap but that's what my RT told me to use. There you have it...

Good luck

Deglorious

Hi,

I'm currently in a phase of using my Quattro again. I use a few drops of Dawn "original" dishwashing detergent (per my DME's RT). I also make sure to always wash my face before putting my mask on.

The silicone is a little cloudy and mottled (I've had it for about 3 months and have worn it about half that time).

I've experienced the same thing. I started out washing with baby shampoo, but found it to be a bit to smelly for me. I switched to Dawn

I have found that using hot (not warm) water to wash the cushion helps. Also if you have hard water, you can do a final rinse in distilled water (I keep some in a plastic container with a lid so I don't waste as much). I've been doing this for about 2 1/2 months and my cushion looks almost brand new.

Thanks for the info. I will try Dawn "original" with hotter water and try the distilled water rinse. I used SeaBreeze astringent the other night to get my face "sqeeky clean", but I wonder if that didn't cause the problem. I won't do that again -- I will just clean my face with dove soap and call it good.

Thanks.

Laurie
