BREATHING WITH A FULL FACE MASK

Post by jomac30 » Tue Feb 12, 2008 4:34 pm

Is it harder to breathe with the air blowing into your nose and your mouth at the same time? Do you have to keep your mouth open all night to let the air in?

actually, it's the same as breathing without a mask (except of course the air is blowing in the mask) at least it feels that way for me. When I had a nasal mask I could really tell the difference when my mouth would open because I'd get a loud ttttttthhhhhhhhaaaaaaa noise. Now I can't tell the difference. I'll breathe either through my mouth or my nose with the full face mask. It's really very easy...

Good luck,

Deglorious

Ideally, we must keep our mouth closed, even with the FFM. Mouth breathing leads to a dry mouth, even with a heated humidifier. After using CPAP for awhile, breathing with the FFM should feel natural. I recall when I began using CPAP that it did feel a little unnatural, but it feels fine now.

Mouthbreathing is designed for dogs, Humans are suppose to use the nose, but we were given the poorer option of breathing through the mouth, if the nose is stopped up. Nature's second Chance to breath! Jim

hi
i thought it would be horrible to have a full face mask but it has turned out to be the opposite. i like it much better than the nasal mask. i can breathe through either and i really do not feel any pressure from the air. it is amazing actually. i am claustropobic, so i thought for sure i would hate it, but instead i have nights with a 0 leak rate and feel soo much better. i would have not known anythinhg without this forum, and i am so thankful to everyone on here who helped me in the past month.

I was getting claustrophobic just thinking about a full face mask. But now thanks to all of you, I'm looking forward to getting one.

The first few minutes are a little claustrophobic.... but each day it gets a little easier. I'm two weeks into mine and now, I don't even feel it. The only problem I have with it is that my nose sometimes itches and it's hard to itch it through the hard shell.

If I could get my nose clear enough to constantly breathe through it, I would use a nasal mask, but the FFM isn't a bad alternative.

I am a longtime nasal mask user who just got a FFM as a backup (like when I can't breathe through my nose due to a cold). So when I use my FFM it means that I have no choice than to mouth breathe.

I noticed that my relatively low pressure (9) is enough to puff my cheeks out inside the mask, which is a rather strange sensation. I am still working on getting used to it or trying to figure out how to deal with that.

Good luck. I ended up liking my full face mask (Quattro) much more than I thought I would.
