Columbus Ohio fustration
Columbus Ohio fustration
Central Ohio PAPers;
Has anyone received a ResMed Adapt SV from Ohio Health here in central Ohio? I am asking because I would like to go to a sleep lab with some experience with the Adapt SV. At my last sleep over they put me on the Respironics SV when my Dr. ordered the Adapt; and they really had no idea what they were doing during the set up or testing. They got no results due to insufficient sleep time, but ended the testing while I was asleep. I woke with the hose on the floor blowing air, I reconnected myself and fell back asleep, only to be told upon awaking that it did not affect the results because the testing had finished hours before.
I was so frustrated when I got the results and read the report; I am sure that they are billing my insurance for the whole night. I slept a whole hour and a half while they were testing, but woke up feeling like I got a whole night sleep. The SV might just do the trick, but the Respironics unit went crazy several times and tried to blow me up when my breathing simple slowed. The Dr made a no substitution note for this next sleep study SV titration.
So has anyone in the Columbus Ohio area had a real positive experience with one of the Ohio Health Sleep labs; Flint Rd., Dublin, Bethel, or Grove City? Anyone been tested on the Adapt at one of these labs? I swear I read about this sleep study stuff in Dante’s Inferno, or somewhere concerning circles of ----.
Thanks for the help.

I don't know the answers. Just bumping your post up so it doesn't get lost. Hopefully, SAG or one of our sleep lab techs will see your post and jump in w/some suggestions.
Frankly, I doubt I would want to use ANY of the sleep labs run by this company. Titration and/or evaluation should be done the ENTIRE time you are sleeping for the results to have any real meaning or value. I'd write a letter of complaint to the highest level of management regarding this current study you just completed.
I don't know that the study should have or had to be done on your particular type of machine but for them to stop evaluating or titrating when you continued to sleep was inexcusable.
Crochety ole broad that I am if they are an accredited sleep lab I'd be contacting the accrediting association w/my complaints. And if they are the only sleep lab in your insurance's network I'd contact the insurance company as well!!!

If you are willing to make the drive south, I had my study done at Tri-state sleep disorders just north of Cincinnati.
They were very professional and did a great job with my initial study, as well as the titration.

I live in Columbus, OH and have had two sleep studies done at the Bethal Road one and they start the sleep study as soon as they get you hooked up and leave the room saying to watch tv till you get sleepy and I found out that the study is started before I go to sleep. This is why I don't get good results saying I didn't sleep at all when it is started before falling a sleep and only for a certain amount of hours not the whole night. I see Dr. Fulop of which I am not pleased with and deal with Homereach too. If you want to PM me your phone # maybe we could chat and compair notes and help each other out.

Wow,
Thanks for the replies. Shutchris1951 my last study, the one mentioned above, was at the Bethel sleep lab! I wonder how many people they get to bill extra studies for with that policy, due to lack of sleep. I thought I was lucky being able to get in so fast at that location, and my room was nicer than the other place, but at what cost? I considered trying your Dr, but instead I tried another highly recommended Dr, one that draws from all over the country, but he wanted to completely start over with three new sleep studies and I have already been through four in the past two months. He told me that insurance usually pays for two a year and required preauthorization; ever notice that form that makes you responsible if the insurance decides not to pay? His basic plan was the same as my current Drs, so I thought it best to stay the course and try one more study with Ohio Health.
I also found out that all the Ohio Health sleep labs have switched to Respironics equipment exclusively; meaning that my Dr Rx can not be fulfilled within their system without some serious wrangling and ResMed sales rep help. On lab insisted that the SV machines were identical and so the brand did not matter. I am waiting on the outcome to schedule; the scheduling dept has been very helpful and patient. My Dr office tends to send over the previous sleep study order and not the current standing order, so scheduling and I have had several discussions concerning exactly what is to be done.
Fatfeminist, your sleep lab appears to be across the street from Dasco, my DME. Have you had good experiences with HomeReach? My Dr recommended that I choose either HomeReach or Dasco based on his office’s experience when I request a DME closer to home. Of course they all do home delivery, but I like to be able to drop in for supplies, so I have been thinking about switching to HomeReach which is closer.
Should there be a discount if they do not get results? They are dealing with problem sleepers, shouldn’t they have solutions or alternatives? Who said what about “…doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”?

Keep in mind that once you lay down w/lights out, even tho you may be laying there awake, it is your brain wave patterns that tell them WHEN you are asleep OR awake. How else are they to tell whether you are sleeping or awake UNLESS they start the study recording once you are laying down in bed w/lights out?
Under Medicare guidelines you MUST sleep at least 2 hours out of 6 hours bedtime. I was under the impression you slept quite some time after the hose reattachment. What I said was inexcusable was because they did not continue to record ALL your time whilst asleep. ESPECIALLY since the only sleep they DID record was ONLY an hour and a half. The more sleep time they can record the more accurate the data collected.
Are you sharing the information from the doctor's dictated results report or from the full data summary w/condensed graphs of the scored report?
There IS the possibility that another patient (usually a sleep tech is assigned TWO patients) required the tech's attention and thus she was busy w/the other patient when your hose came off and that it hadn't been off that long before you woke and reattached it yourself and went back to sleep. And you might not have slept all that long after reattaching the hose before it was time to wake you to send you home. Have you ever taken a "power nap" where you only slept 15-30 minutes and awoke feeling renewed and refreshed? The tech might have been disconnecting the other patient that morning and you really only slept 10-15 minutes after reattaching the hose. This would make a lot more sense given your tech's comment and the scored report will tell you more about this than the dictated results.
It is NOT the sleep lab's fault if you can only sleep an hour and a half out of the entire night if their facility is quiet and bed and temperature comfortable.
My last titration experience in '06 for some reason I only slept 42 minutes out of 6 hours bedtime my first titration so I had to go back for a second titration at which I only slept 98 minutes out of 6 hours bedtime. The two titrations combined met the 2 hour requirement.
I have to point out that it was NOT the lab's fault I slept so little during those titrations.
The bed was comfortable, the temperature and bedding were comfortable, there were no noise distractions, etc. I don't remember that the tech had to come in either time during the night to reattach a lead nor did we have any mask problems that required adjustment. (At my sleep evaluation during which I slept 5:49 hours the tech did have to come in to reattach leads a couple of times when I WAS sleeping which, of course, woke me, but I was able to go back to sleep).
I felt quite rested that morning of the second titration when I only slept 98 minutes the entire night. In fact, I didn't even need a nap that day. Of course, despite sleeping better that night at home I was exhausted the day after the day after the titration!!! Go figure.
If you don't have the scored report, just the doctor's dictated report, get that full data summary of the scored report, it may better clarify things for you.

They did that to me too, and then made an issue out of how long it took me to fall asleep! They had a mic attached to tell when I snored, you'd think they could hear the darned TV over that lol.Shutchis1951 wrote:I live in Columbus, OH and have had two sleep studies done at the Bethal Road one and they start the sleep study as soon as they get you hooked up and leave the room saying to watch tv till you get sleepy and I found out that the study is started before I go to sleep.

hi there, its not right across from dasco, i know this because i drive by dasco every day on my way home, but it is very much within the same neighborhood. very close. do you come to dasco to get your supplies? or do they deliver always. ive always had homereach deliver, but i know they are having an office somewhere out of lewis center up here, i dont know if its available to drop in though or not.
my experiences with homereach have been pretty good. i was on 02 before and the gentleman who brought it out was very knowledgeable, my RT thru them is amazing, and every time ive talked to them on the phone they have been very helpful, but at the same time its a giant operation it seems, and right now im dealing with a snafu of getting my dr to get the unused 02 concentrator taken away, and they keep messing things up there, but its all computer stuff. when i wanted to upgrade my machine, they worked with me, i think it has a lot to do with my dr being very adamant about going to bat for the patients, hell he told me to come here and READ the boards, after i already had. he is a very big fan of knowledge of the whole process, keeping your own numbers, and being a part of your own therapy. i like that.
the office i go to for my appointment,s and went to for my overnight studies is very small, its only four beds, its in a tiny little building with a dentist office and two smaller offices, its a satellite office that the dr is at only once or twice weekly. i think their main office is on olentangy river road.
as for your other questions, im not sure...im very new to this, only been on the machine since late november, but i wish you luck, anything i can do let me know, as your geographic neighbor
