CPAP for travel

Post by REK » Thu Feb 07, 2008 5:56 pm

Hi,
I plan to do some extensive traveling abroad this summer. I would like to purchase a smaller/lighter CPAP machine than the one I am using now. Does anyone have suggestions as to the brand and/or model that I should consider. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks

I hear that this one is a great travel machine, but I don't own one, so I can't speak from experience.

Ditto RipVW's suggestion. I do own one as my travel/back-up machine and couldn't be happier.

I have the AEIOmed everest 2. It is a great little machine. I got the bundle with the battery. I get 12 hours(a little over) on one charge of the battery(without the HH)with a pressure of 9. If I choose to use the HH I get about 6-7 hrs of battery usage.. It will run off of regular power, and trickle charge the battery at the same time. It has no bells or whistles, but is easy to use and easy to pack. It's carry case has plenty of room for the machine, mask, hoses, and some extra parts. I find it to have a slightly higher pitched sound than my remstar auto, but it hasn't been a problem for me. Best of all I have a backup machine in case of power outages. I have been very happy with this little machine!

Travel machines w/o exhalation relief

Post by kteague » Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:22 am

I notice some of these travel machines have no exhalation relief. Does that mean those who use them have low pressures, don't use c-flex or EPR at home anyhow, or are just willing to deal with it on temporary basis?

I use c-flex on my remstar. I can manage without it, and do when I use the Everest. It only takes me a few minutes to adjust to the constant pressure. If I were to need another 'fulltime' machine I would like one with c-flex, but for travel and occasional power outages, I like the Everest.

I travel extensively, and do it with my M-Series APAP from Respironics. They sell it complete with a really nice travel bag that's big enough for the integrated machine/humidifier combo ... and the extra pocket holds the hose and mask easily.

I know there are smaller versions that might be better for travel, but I couldn't imagine living without the features of this systtem (A-Flex, Auto, Smartcard, etc.).

I love this gadget, and don't leave home without it.

wondering what to do

Post by lifeartist59 » Sat Feb 09, 2008 12:01 am

I am wondering what to do for a trip. I don't have an extra or supplimental machine and I am worried about bringing the one and only machine on a air plane , then bus tour etc. I worry it will get damaged and then I will be without till I can afford to replace it since insurance won't for two more years. Any ideas?

http://www.cpapauction.com has some great deals. You can pick up a travel system for a fraction of the new device price.

It ain't free, but it's cheaper than new.

travel machine

Post by dankazoo » Sun Feb 10, 2008 9:53 pm

I travel every week and take my machine with me. I have an Aeiomed which I have found not to be particularly durable.

On the other hand, I also have a GoodKnight 420E. I have positively beaten the crap out of that machine over an extended time and nothing kills it. Because I hate to be delayed, I check it in my luggage rather than endure the extra inspection from TSA. No problems, never breaks, always performs. Just like Timex, "Takes a lickin' . . . . "
