Mask Fit Test On ResMed S8 Elite

I just received my CPAP (a ResMed S8 Elite) with a full-face Ultra Mirage mask. Setting the machine up last night, I ran the mask fit test to make sure that I had a good seal. In order to get the test to register in a range of very good to excellent, I had to tighten the mask to a point at which the Marquis de Sade would have found worthy.

I "slept" with the mask for about two hours before giving up. Tried it again this morning with somewhat better results. Might just need to get used to the thing (my pressure is set to 13 with a 30 minute ramp-up). Can anyone else comment on the validity of the fit test on this unit?

Actually, it is difficult to use the Mask Fit option by yourself. You really need two people so that you can lay down to fit your mask. The mask should NOT be tight as they are designed to seal best w/the cushion filled w/air. Most masks are too heavy to fit properly when sitting up to use the Mask Fit option by yourself and you have to be upright to see the LCD screen.

Thanks for the information! Makes sense. I wanted to eliminate as much leakage as possible, but I've probably ratcheted the mask down too tight. I will have my SO help me with it this weekend.

Yer, welcome. Also check the Mask Fitting suggestions under the Red Ball w/the Question Mark at the top of this page. There may be some hints there that will help too.
