Compliance Report Help

Post by Brett » Tue Feb 05, 2008 12:53 pm

I have been using BiPAP for awhile but in the past few weeks, I have been waking up completely unrefreshed. I took my SmartCard in to my DME to have him run a report for me to send to my doctor. With my doctor out of the country, I may not get an answer for about 10 days. I thought that if I posted my scores, some of you could give me some insight into the results. The results were drawn from the period of 10/2/07-1/31/08.

Average 90% IPAP Pressure 10.9
Average 90% EPAP Pressure 7.9
Average Non-Responsive Apnea/Hypopnea Index: 0/0
Average Obstructive Apnea Index: 0.5
Average Hypopnea Index: 0.7
Average AHI: 1.2
Average Flow Limitation Index: 1.0
Average Vibratory Snore Index: 11.5
Average Max Leak: 70.8
Average 90% Leak: 41.4
Average Leak: 36.1
Average Large Leak: 6.6 Seconds

Any thoughts? What are considered to be the norms on these?

There is no Compliance Data there. What you have presented is your Therapy Data which is much more important to you, once you understand it, and to your doctor, if he has any REAL interest in your therapy being successful. Compliance data is ONLY important to the local DME supplier so he can protect his income by proving you are using your device enough to warrant their being paid.

How have you got that thing configured?
I presume from some of the numbers, it's in Auto mode.....
You might be better off setting the IPAP and EPAP in straight Bi-PAP mode with your pressures at 8 & 11 (or something close)

Your AHI numbers DO look good.

It is set on Auto with a low of 7 and a high of 18, if that helps clarify things. And I am sorry I called it a compliance report--the sheet said compliance details--full report.

Brett, all your numbers look fine, imho. Based on just your data, it doesn't look like you need to change anything.

However, if you were waking up refreshed before and not so now, you might want to first look at sleep hygiene issues: going to bed later maybe? A restless bed partner or pet that sleeps in the bedroom waking you repeatedly? Also think about other possible health issues acting up -- allergies, GERD, a cold, thyroid, diabetes, flu. Or even possible added stress going on in one's life. Look into med side effects if you have meds you take regularly or have added within the last month or so.

It's never a bad idea though, to see if simplifying treatment might help...as in Den's suggestion to try just bilevel mode for a while. Or even straight cpap pressure, which you can do with your machine by turning off autotitrating and setting EPAP/IPAP the same.

Shucks, no need to apologize, Brett. I just thought I would clarify things so that it was understood what "we" were talking about. I didn't respond about your therapy "data" 'cause I am not all that well-versed in bi-levels and knew others experienced w/your device would be along to comment on that.

And, along the lines of rested gal's sleep hygiene issues, make sure you're getting ENOUGH sleep.

Should I be concerned about the leakage numbers?

Sure.....if you see some trends developing, but I don't THINK the leak numbers you listed are out of line for that mask (in your profile).
