Post by hobbs » Mon Feb 04, 2008 7:06 pm

Anyone have experience purchasing from non preferred sellers? Will Resmed still honor the warranty?

I thought all Resmed Preferred Internet Providers filed bankruptcy. Jim

At least they should have.

A usually highly reliable source tells me that our CPAPTalk host, CPAP dot com, is not a "Resmed Preferred Internet Provider"; that they obtain their ResMed products "indirectly"; and that is why they can underprice other online ResMed merchants and why they can offer ResMed software for sale to "consumers".

Perhaps our host would be willing to comment and clarify, and respond to the very important original question about warranties.

Apologies for my lack of political correctness, and for raising this perhaps "indiscreet" matter. The open exchange of information is at the heart of this forum.

ResMed S8 AutoSet Vantage / Respironics M-Series Auto
ResMed Mirage Activa / UMFF masks
F&P MR730 heated-tube servo humidifier
SmartCards & software
OSA diagnosed 11/1997
Klearway dental appliance 2/99 - 12/08
CPAP since 12/04, nightly since 12/08

"Resmed preferred dealership" seems to imply that the providers they don't prefer are unreliable.

If your provider honors a warranty, why should you care what Resmed does? As long as you get the service you need, it shouldn't matter.

The only time you should worry -as a client - is if you're afraid the dealer won't be around to talk to by the time your problem crops up.
That's when you have to contact Resmed directly. But otherwise?

Lets put the question differently: When Resmed honors the warranty, does that mean the faulty machine you my have bought in Australia will be replaced by any "prefered" dealer in Europe? Who will you contact for an RMA under those condition? Resmed? And how long will it take to get the replacement then? Who pays for the shipping? Will you really be better off than contacting a "cpap-user preferred dealer" whom you bought from? (Those are not rhetorical questions, they are things to find out before you decide where to buy).

For the majority of users, Resmed's preferred dealership looks to me like nothing more than an attempt to punish some dealers for independent policy.

Cpaptalk, was set up by cpap.com has been around to help patients with their therapy long before Resmed decided to "care" for patients by making sure they didn't buy software in the U.S.

Velbor, am I understanding your sig correctly? You are using a dental device 5 nights a week and your CPAP only 2 nights a week???

Why don't you use your Vantage 7 nights a week?

Interesting point, Ozij. I got my Elite from my local sheister DME dealer. I got my Vantage slightly used (505 hours on it) from a fellow "apnean". When the Vantage was subject to the recall I called Resmed to see if they would replace it. Resmed told me yes, to take it to any local DME supplier who handled Resmed products for replacement, that people move all the time from one end of the country to the other. BUT - when I contacted my sheister local DME supplier they refused to replace it or have anything to do w/it. I called Resmed back and they replaced it thru SteriCycle. They DID ask who my local DME supplier was.

Not the way I understood it. More along the lines of Warranty/U.S. Warranty and/or product not manufactured for sale in the U.S. Been buying cameras and Swiss watches for too long maybe?

"If your provider honors a warranty, why should you care what Resmed does? As long as you get the service you need, it shouldn't matter."

Kind of like buying a car at the Ford dealer at a discount, but all warranty repairs HAVE to be done by that dealer ONLY?

That's what the original question was about.

Agreed. Preferred Provider smells just short of price fixing, although our learned justices think that is OK.
