Vent noise

Post by PocketDragonFriend » Mon Feb 04, 2008 12:59 pm

Is there any way to reduce the noise coming from the darn vents on the front of the mask?

I'm still very new and adjusting to life with CPAP. I'm slowly increasing the amount of time I can stand the mask. The thing that's annoying me the most now is the darn noise from the vents. It's so loud. It's so loud it's blocking out my TV! I've always slept with noise on, but this is nuts.

Any suggestions?

I found that while I was getting use to the vent noise from my Nasal Air interface that I continue to use my "sounds" machine that I had always slept with. Now I am comfortable with the vent noise and think of it as "white noise". Sometimes I imagine that it is the same sound as being in an airplane that is taking me somewhere wonderful. Isn't imagination a wonderful thing.....especially when you a covered with snow in Idaho?

Yup! You'll get used to it. It's annoying at first. What I found MORE upsetting was the "breathe in breathe out" of the CPAP machine itself. It reminded me of some horror movie set in an ICU.... Really freaky sounding!

Now it's very much a "white noise" mask for me. I really appreciate it in the summer, when I have to sleep with the windows open and the JD's across the street sit out on their porch partying all night.

vent noise

I can stand the regular "woosh" type of noise coming from the exhale portal. What drives me crazy is the high whistle and whinning that the portal emits as the pressure gets higher. If I'm still awake I just briefly touch the exhale portal and it stops - for only a few minutes. Anyone else experience this and have a long term solution of it??

I sleep with a pillow over my head (carefully arranged to leave the vent free, but to cover my eyes and ears)--it really helps with the vent noise, I find.
