any suggestions for a FULL FACE Mask?
any suggestions for a FULL FACE Mask?
Apparently, I am breathing through my mouth even with a chin strap.
Tomorrow I will be going to pick up a face mask and i would like to know what to ask for.
Does anyone know a link to the reviews? I cannot seem to find anything. I did go to the lightbulb and the cpap faq. i remember finding reviews before but i cannot find them now. argh.
thanks!

NEVERMIND!
NVERMIND I FOUND THE LINK TO MEASURE MY BIG NOSE AND THEN SEE WHAT FITS BEST. I WAS HOPING THE QUATTRO I GUESS, BUT THE ULTRA MIRAGE WAS ON MY LIST BUT NO QUATTRO. I WONDER WHY? I WILL HAVE TO ASK. I JUST WANT SOMETHING COMFORTABLE AND LESS ANNOYING THAN OTHER ONES.
THANKS FOR READING IF YOU MADE IT THIS FAR.

I am a newbie to the cpap world, but one thing i have learned is there is no one best mask, it is all a matter of how it feels on YOU. I have used the fisher paykel flexifit 431, the ultra mirage full face and the quattro. In my case, the 431 had ALOT of leaks around the chin, the UMFF had alot less leaks but i had to keep the straps so tight the welts on my neck every morning were quite sore. The Quattro has been, for me, the most comfy so far. I was fitted for the quattro at the sleep lab and i have no leaks, the straps are MUCH looser, no more red marks on the face or neck, and it stays put alot better, even allowed me to sleep on my side. The quattro seems to onscure my vision alot less as well, but again, this is just what works for me. Good luck in your search for a FF mask.

back to bed now.
i am soo excited. this sure fixes the mouth breathing issue.

As others have mentioned, there is no way anyone can know what mask will work best for others. The Resmed Ultra Mirage FFM and the Resmed Quattro are my favorites--I use the UM FFM most of the time, find it the most comfortable and "leak proof." When I got my Quattro, thought I had discovered the "holy grail" of FF masks. For some reason that I've never been able to figure out, after about two months, it began to make the bridge of my nose sore--so back to the UMFF. Good luck!

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got...
I hope your DME will let you return a mask if it doesn't work for you. I've heard that they are supposed to be able to get reimbursement from the manufacturer if that happens and you return it within 30 days.
I did the measurements and cpap.com and it's interesting because the size of the quattro is different than some of the others and they listed a small for me. My DME and sleep tech insisted on a medium so I tried both. Small was a bit too small and medium was a bit too large (in length). I didn't realize the latter until I'd worn it for a couple of weeks. Some nights I can just put it on and it's great; other nights I can't get it to work no matter what I do. Go figure!
In any case, trying out a FF mask is especially important!

The Quattro is my mask of choice too. I was using an Ultra Mirage and happy with that until I tried the Quattro. Much "lighter" feeling on my face and fewer leaks when I toss and turn. Note: If you get that infamous leak at the elbow connector, wrap it (the mask end of the connector) with teflon plumbers tape ... seals it right up and does not affect the swivel or airflow.
Why no Quattro from the DME? I found the same issue at my DME. I bought a Quattro myself at CPAP.com. At that time the Quattro was much more expensive than the UM. I think that price difference is the reason insurance companies would only pay for the UM. But that was old pricing. Now I see the Quattro is cheaper than the UM (go figure). Maybe when the insurance companies update their data the position on Quattro vs UM will change.

I just want to go back to sleep!
I would highly recommend the newest FF mask...the Hans Rudolph 7600 V2. It's the only FF I've found that actually forms a good enough seal to withstand pressures 15cm and greater. This apparently is due to the double seal ribbed design. It requires severe tightening of the headstrap at those pressures though. If you are at lower pressures you can go looser. One nice thing is it doesn't have a forehead bridge, which allows the use of a PapPillow, Contour Pillow, etc. without the forehead bridge knocking the mask out of place when you turn on your side (i.e. the mask nestles beautifully into the space provided by the pillow). Also, beware that it seems to collect more water than usual from the humidification. If using heated humidification with this mask, I recommend using the lowest setting or turning off the heat and use it as passive. This is because if water touches the seal from the inside, it tends to cause minor leaks at those points (which wakes me up). Has a hose quick disconnect feature which is really convenient. The mask runs large, so if you use a Respironics small, you would order the extra small. I am a 50 year old male, 240 pounds, and I take a small in this mask. I would think most females would take an extra small.
