Post by Mitzi » Sat Jan 26, 2008 11:22 pm

Hi I am from Montana, and I have had sleep apnea for about 5 years now..my pressure is 19 and the Dr. said it still is not doing what it should be...I was wondering what others pressure is? My sleep dr. said he doesn't know what else to do except surg. if it doesn't work..I have not gone back to him for another study yet..I still am not sleeping very good..
Just wanted to talk to someone that uses one...
thank you

Hi Mitzi, be sure to fill out your profile so that the forum gurus can help you with your problems. You need to list the machine and mask you are using and if you have any software.

Good luck

Hi Mitzi.

Welcome to the forum.
There are quite a few folks on this forum from this part of the country.

There are some surgeries you do NOT want to have......UPPP comes to mind......it'll make the problems worse instead of better.

One of the keys to making this therapy successful is to have a machine that records nightly statistics and the software to decipher what's going on at night. Far too many DME shops hand out the cheapest equipment to maximize their profits and the users end up suffering. Without the information, you don't know if you're leaking air out your mouth or your pressure is wrong.
If your pressure is 19 and you're leaking air out your mouth, that would be the reason your therapy isn't working.
Do you use a nasal-type mask?
Do you wake up with a dry mouth?
Let us know what equipment you have and a little more about your past therapy experiences.

Best wishes,

Den

Mitzi
I presume this was your post in another thread?......OUCH!

We need to figure out how to help you with this one, too.

Again, when you put your equipment in your profile, please let us know if the machine also has exhale relief like C-Flex or EPR.

Hang in there.

How long have you had the Plus machine?

Unfortunately it doesn't provide you with any data. With a pressure as high as yours I would want a better machine that would provide the doctor with more details. If you haven't had your plus machine long let us know and we can offer suggestions on how you can possibly upgrade.

I agree with my buddy SleepyCarol ... it really is ALL about seeing the data and adjusting to what you see.

With a pressure as high as that, you really should be re-titrated on a bi-level machine. Bi-level machines can give you higher pressure for inhale (up to 25 if necessary) and lower level on exhale - where it is possible you don't need it so high. That will make the treatemnet bearable.

And nowadays, bi-level machines have full data capability.

A bi-level titrtation and a bi-level trial are something reversible - surgery is not.

If you're sure your machine is a Remstar Plus, then I think you may have to consider looking for a doctor who is more up to date about possible solutions for people with your pressure needs.

added oxygen onto my cpap now...there are only 2 Dr. in that take care of sleep apnea..we already travel 86 miles to get to the Dr. and that is the closest one to us...we live in a rural area..Mitzi

Mitzi,
Try a bite guard (you can usually get them at most pharmacies)... you're going to make the pain worse, clenching them that hard.
