Okay I got my new S8 Vantage today and the dme gave me the data card and said to put it in before turning on the machine. But when I do that it says data transferred then says remove card. Two questions
1. Is the card supposed to be in the machine all the time while using the machine?
2. Or do you only put the card in the machine to collect the data and then remove to read the data?

1. No, the card is not supposed to be in the machine all the time.
2. Yes, only use the card to collect your data.
Good luck,

So if I had the necessary software and reader, I could put my card in the machine, and when it was ready I could take it out and it would have all the information from when I got the machine?
Thanks

First off, it is possible to program your machine settings via the software and the data card. This is why they had you insert the card and why the LED screen then said Data Transferred. All your therapeutic settings were transferred to the Vantage.
The Vantage collects and stores your data in itself. The data is transferred when you insert the card. So unlike the Respironics you only insert the card when you want to download the data.
Yes, if you had the software and reader, you would insert the card into the Vantage, allow it to download the data to the card, remove the card, insert the card into the reader cable attached to your 'puter and could then download the data to the software on your 'puter.

Cool.
Thanks Slinky.
I was thinking I couldn't access "old" data, but obviously I can - once I get the equipment.

Well, I will clarify this a bit further. You will only get detailed data for the previous 5 nights.
All the data prior to that will be the averages, except that the Usage Profile bar graphs will show the length of each night's sleep since you started using that device, including the nights you didn't use it all if there were any such nights.
Now, if you had been doing a download at least every 4-5 days AND been saving that data, THEN, yes, you would see each night's detailed data as well as the averages.
So, when your DME supplier or sleep lab/doctor does a download from your card THEY only get the detailed data for the previous 5 nights and averages for all the rest of your usage.
