This was an aside on page 2 of the linked article that started this topic:

Given that many people with OSA have already developed heart problems over the years before they were diagnosed with OSA and started on "CPAP", it could very well be that the unfortunate man might have succumbed to the carbon monoxide even if he had not been using a cpap machine. The level of carbon monoxide seeping into that room sure made his wife very ill:

May I quote from cpap.com :

"Humidification adds moisture to the CPAP air, reducing irritation to the nasal passages caused by the increased airflow."

CPAP also expands the lungs. We breathe in more each time. If we took in five molecules of CO with each breath, then maybe now we take in seven. Those seven then run quick to the blood cell, and lock the door to any future oxygen molecules. It is a process of gradual and cumulative poisoning. And the more poison you are exposed to, the quicker the effect.

Yep, that's it. Never took physics and I'm WAY out of high school. My son's taking it in college this semester, so I'll get some lessons from him!

Poison is poison. The more you take, the sicker you get. And the sicker you are, the more you are at risk to succumb.

I'll Splain it to you D.H., if you could read the posts on the forum you would know. I posted on the first page:

XPAP does not concentrate anything but room air. The ratio of chemicals (room air), stays the same.

If you will note, the room heating and cooling systems under the windows, were trapped inside the tent full of poison gasses, drawing them into the room. This is just a case of death by Moron Contractor and the motel that hired substandard repairs.

The widow should be very rich. Jim

This is one case the lawyer should be on speedial.

The CPAP wasn't at fault period, the man had poor health and breathing problems, contractors tented the outside of the room a/c and heating unit, trapping CO and allowing it into the room. I killed him, not cpap!

To be Registered doesn't require a Psych test or a IQ test, doesn't even require the ability to read and comprehend text, even to comment rationally.

Officials said workers from Martin Plastering Contractors were repairing stucco on the side of the building, and had rigged the plastic tent along a wall. The tent trapped exhaust from propane-fired hot water heaters, and the building slowly filled with carbon monoxide.

That is just pure ignorance on their behalf. The "tent" should have NEVER been set up in a way that it trapped exhaust gas and vented it in to the building.

I hope they know.... or better yet.... I hope the widow knows she has a good cause of action arising from their negligence.
