CPAP bed pillows
CPAP bed pillows
Has anyone tried a bed pillow specifically designed for CPAP users? I have seen two styles and am thinking I need one. Can anyone recommend one?
I have the sleepPap pillow. I love it. I normally have had trouble getting used to a new pillow, and actually tried several store bought pillows before I got this one. I slept the first night with this pillow, and will not sleep with anything else.

I did find one on ebay that was a foam type pillow. I couldnt decide on which one to get so I went with the SleePap one.

i have the PAPillow and haven't used anything else since i got it...i do like it much better than a regular pillow, but, because the PAPillow is pretty smushy, i think i'm going to order the one you linked to one of these days...i'd like something firmer than the PAPillow, with more neck support
If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got...
More than just curves
Only the PAPillow has the quilted side walls to prevent edge flatening or callapse, and give the height needed to keep a good distance between the mask and bed. Side panels maintain an even thickness across the surface of the pillow. If the top and bottom panels of any pillow are sewn together without the boxed side construction, fill will be taller in the center, and flatter on the side seams, lacking support at "the edge". Only looking at top view photos, this difference may not be obvious, but when trying to position your mask over the edge, the advantages of the PAPillow side wall will be obvious.

I have researched both pillows and the pappillow is stuffed with the following materials Materials Used: Polycotton with polyester fill.
The other pillow for cpap users is made with foam (I think I read it is the tempurpedic but not sure).
Polyester will flatten out and will not hold its shape in my experience. I stopped buying the polyester pillows as they NEVER provided the support I like. The support is there for a very short time but with repeated use it breaks down. I have not been impressed with the ones that I have tried washing to restore the support. I have purchased "higher end" ones thinking that might help. Like sharon said they are smooshy!!
The foam will provide more support and will not flatten as easily.
If you want a firmer pillow in my opinion you would need the one that is foam.
If you like a flatter pillows then the pappillow would be your choice.
I don't have either pillow cause I use a king size pillow and don't want to give up the size but I have researched both pillows as I keep toying with the idea I ought to get one.

memory foam
Actually, the memory foam "multi mask pillow" is also sold here on cpap.com and the buyer reviews of it state it is too flat. There are only three reviews of it, so here they are:
(4 out of 5) by TED P.
"The pillow has definitely help minimize the mask leaks while sleeping. I do not wake up as often as with a regular pillow.
It would be nice if the pillow "holes" were a little bigger to accomodate the mask and hose more easly."
Too Thin December 18, 2007
(2 out of 5) by Vernon T.
"Even though the first reviewer said that the pillow was too thin, I normally sleep on a very thin pillow and thought it might work for me. I was wrong. Unfortunately the pillow is fairly expensive and there is no opportunity to even feel it before irrevocably purchasing.
The center portion used when sleeping on my back is thinner than my usual pillow but I was able to adjust to that. When on my side, the pillow does give clearance for the mask so that is a plus. However the portion of the pillow used when on my side, while thicker than the center, is much too compressible to give adequate support. My shoulder aches after only a short time on my side. I cannot use it. I agree with the first reviewer that my pillow compresses much, much more when on my side than the one shown in the pictures – they must have used a different pillow."
Too thin and uncomfortable November 19, 2007
(1 out of 5) by Robert P.
"I had high hopes for this pillow - but was very disapointed. The pillow is very thin - the point where your head lies is only about 1" thick. There is no neck support because the 3" of foam is highly compressible. The shape of the pillow seems like it should work, but the thinness of the material makes it as uncomfortable as using no pillow at all. Look closely at the pictures of the models lieing on their sides - you can see that their shoulders on the side next to the bed are either smushed forward or somehow lieing below the level of the pillow. It is very uncomfortable. I am going to try adding 2" - 3" of foam pad underneath the pillow to see if that helps - otherwise I am still looking for a solution."

These reviews are the reason I didn't choose the foam one to try. When these pillows are bought sight unseen, non-refundable and for a lot of $$, I wanted a person here to give me a little advice.
My SleePap pillow is back ordered, so it won't be shipped until Feb 1, but after it arrives, I will give my opinion here.

I had purchased the Multi-mask SLeep aid pillow from ContourLiving a while back, and it didn't work for me. Kept pushing my mask (headgear) off my face. I was able to return it, thank goodness.
Have since found a microbead pillow works best for me, and lots cheaper.
Good luck, I've heard others like the Sleepap pillow, so hopefully it will work for you!

I have the multi-mask pillow from Contour Living. I do have less trouble with mask leaks with this pillow but agree that it's on the thin side.
I think that pillows are like masks ... there not one that everyone likes!

Re: memory foam
In my past experience with OTHER pillows by "Contour", they were crap.Anonymous wrote:Actually, the memory foam "multi mask pillow" is also sold here on cpap.com
I did see this Multi-Mask pillow at my DME and felt it... and the quality didn't seem to have improved and I could anticipate that it would be too thin. For $20 I might've been willing to try it out... but at $60 -- don't think so.
I may be wrong... but I think it was just "regular" foam... not memory foam.
