Start by Reading "Our Collective Wisdom"

Really - put on your reading glasses, get comfy, AND keep pencil & paper handy to make notes. Believe me, you will get side tracked.

Search the Forum - your question or problem has likely already been asked AND answered and really is the fastest way.

To fine tune your search try using Google.com with the syntax -

Your DME is like a junkyard dog, they do a better job if you keep them hungry. Don't feed them, and keep them pinned up, when they are not working for you. Jim

Just because you hear them growling, don't think they are being truthful, they may have caught a Rabbit.

We could add the physicians office to this.

When I called to talk with my PCP the other day to let her know what machine I wanted the nurse laughed and said "ha...they let you choose?".

Told her if they wanted my business they would. Doc called me back then faxed the order for the A-flex I wanted.

Certainly, physicians office, sleep labs or whatever.
Tell us HOW you managed to tame your "evil provider", (EP).

ps. Sarah, I like the way YOU think.

I just got lucky, my INS would only do Lincare, But I got the Pro 2 Classic, a great machine. Then I found this forum, learned a lot. Now I'm a better shopper, control my own treatment with a pat on the back from my Pulmonary & Critical Care & Sleep Medicine Doctor every three months.

I went to APAP, for reduced pressure and less leaks, it raises my AHI a little, but at less than AHI 0.8, I can afford it. Jim

Get the equiptment and software you need to make your health better, it's a good investment.

the most important thing is --EDUCATION on the topic---when given a perscription you have the right to fill that perscription where ever you want--so if your provider is one of the big dme--and they don't want to give you the machine you want--then tell them you will go elsewhere --just get your script and start calling around to other outlets of the same company--or if your ins has a few providers tell the first one you speak to, that you will go elsewhere and mention the other providers name,i know they want every buck they can get from you and will sell you the machine they will make the most profit on---but i trully believe they make their money on the supplies they will sell you in the future,, i know this works,, i was a victim of this greed---but i make an effort to tell everyone i know on cpap to get a data machine when they come up for a new one and i have helped and educated new people and i tell them how to do it--they might have gotten me--but i will not let them get anyone else if i can help it--just grab your script and walk out--they WILL CALL YOU BACK,,they want your bussiness for the rest of your life, selling you supplies,,if they don't then do the leg work and go to someone else. after all its your life and your theraphy--pat
