The humidifier tank on the slightly used autoPAP I bought was a shade cloudy at the bottom. A vinegar soak for a couple of days didn't quite get the cloudy outta the corners. Writes4Me's suggestion of denture cleanser worked GREAT! Lazy soul that I can be I just let it soak overnight and rinsed it out w/diluted vinegar in the AM. Clear as crystal!

I really like to try to kee the humidifier chamber clean. I went to the DME one day, and there was this man sittng there with his old eqiupment (maybe he was bringing it for repair?) and his humidifier was GROSS! Yellow and crusty and just plain nasty.
I vowed to keep mine clean.
Anyway, I found this cool gadget at the wine store! It's hard to describe, but it's used to clean out the bottom of a wine decanter.
It's longish (long as a wine bottle) and thin and covered with a spongy material. It's built onto a a flexible wire. It works great to clean out my Resmed H3i, which for some unexplained reason only has this little tiny opening. My old one could be opened up for cleaning.
I do a vinegar soak and then use my wine brush to get the cloudy slimy corners.
I have no idea why it's cloudy, becasue I only use distlled water and clean it regularly.
One question, sort of related, anyone know how to take the yellow out of the soft plastic parts on a mask? (like the forehead parts and the seal?)

I use orange Gatorade in my M series. It has stained my tank slightly and I get an orange colored crust after a week or so of using it, but the benefits are better than the cleaning drawbacks. I find that using Gatorade instead of water reduces my thirst level during the day thanks to inhaling the minerals and nutrients that only Gatorade can provide. If I do alot of physical work during the day, I just turn up my humidifier more at night so I get the soreness out of my muscles by morning. Thanks Gatorade.

But seriously, distilled water for me. Keeps my tank clean longer and it is no harder to use since I just have to pick up a gallon when I'm at the store for other things anyway. I would like to find someone around here that sells a 5gal size, though. I go through about a gallon every 3 weeks or so with my M-series on 3 for a 7-hour night.

Thank You,
FreeL

FreeLancer, you should have just told me they removed 'gullible' from the dictionary...

I haven't gotten around to getting distilled water yet, so I'm just using filtered for now.
