Best travel machine? Everest 2?

Post by DJ » Mon Jan 07, 2008 5:45 pm

Hi,

I'm looking for a great travel CPAP. My regular machine is an M-Series Auto with AFLEX. I recently switched from a REMStar Auto that started whining and wheezing loudly after traveling with it on a short overnight business trip (it had traveled with me previously). I don't know if it got banged around too much by TSA or the noise increase was merely a coincidence, but my DME reacted by working with my insurance to "upgrade" me to the M. (I think I'll still get my "tank" repaired under warranty.) That's all background to describe why I want to get a travel machine rather than take my main machine on the road again. Plus, the M with its humidifier and power brick is still bigger than I like to travel with.

I'm looking for small size, durability, and quietness. I don't think I need auto capability for a travel machine. I have 3 possible travel machines in mind, but I can't decide between them and would appreciate any feedback you may have. Currently, I'm leaning towards the Everest 2. Here the 3 machines and the pros/cons I see at this point:

ZZZ-PAP:
Pros: small, quiet, no power "brick"
Cons: humidifier clicking (would drive me crazy if this is as loud as some reviewers say), manual altitude adjustments

PB 420G:
Pros: Quiet, DC capability, lighter than Everest
Cons: Largest of the 3 choices (?), 2 plugs needed to run unit and HH.

Everest 2:
Pro: Can operate direct DC from a car battery through Aeiomed's 19v converter, compact/easy to pack and carry system, can add proprietary battery in future
Cons: High-pitched operation sound?

Please let me know if you have any input on these machines, particularly the Everest. I need to place my order tomorrow! Thanks.

Dave

Here's a discussion from last spring. Maybe you could PM some of the respondents for further information. Good luck. Let us know what you choose. A
